has anyone heard any news about the possible ventures GOOGLE has talked about regarding an auction site (competition for ebay) or accepting credit card payments (competition for xxbay).

I'm guessing you have been on safari in darkest Africa, or in a coma the past year...
Google has little interest in online auctions - too fraud prone and anyway it's more interesting for them to stay on the sidelines and watch as eBay management destroy all their shareholder value. Likely there will be a flood of former eBay storeholders to Google's Base/Froogle database which is priced right - it's free. Google Checkout accepts credit cards and is cheaper and safer than PayPal. Checkout customers are properly vetted before they can use it, while PayPal doesn't really bother too much since they can always recoup losses from the seller.

Welcome Kidgalahad. Google has opened Googlebase, a site for fixed price listings as well as an alternative to PayPal. Ebay has refused to recognise Googlepay as an acceptable method of payment. Many of us are waiting (and praying) that Google will present real competition to Ebay before making our move.

I just set my website up to accept GooglePay as an option this past weekend.
Has anyone here actually gotten a payment through them yet? I saw a "webinar" about how it works, and it looks pretty neat.

Had several payments from customers during the beta stage of GBuy (renamed Google Checkout) and it was painless. You can have payments transfered to the same bank account your AdSense or AdWords fees use so it's really easy to set up. Less chargeback risk than PayPal as customers are verified before they can send funds (rather than after they scam you i.e. the PayPal model). Hope they get moving on international transactions soon as Google have banking affiliates in many more countries than PayPal and have bought on board experts in risk assessment from the financial sector.

It would be great if Vendio allowed us to accept Google Checkout for auctions and store purchases!
HINT! HINT!

You could very well see it for Yahoo or Amazon auctions. Don't plan on ever seeing Google Checkout offered for Ebay auctions, unless the Justice Department gets involved. Even then, plan on a lengthy court battle.

What Sparkz said is true. The auction service I use (non-Vendio) has incorporated Google Checkout into their system. When a buyer buys something from my store there or something he's bought from Yahoo, Google Checkout shows up as a payment option. If they bought something from eBay, that option is hidden. They say it's because of their API contract (or something like that) with eBay.
Even if a customer comes to my store, adds an item to his cart and THEN buys something from eBay, the Google thing is hidden. Anything involving eBay and Google whatsoever is prohibited.
I don't think it will last, but that's the way it is now.

Yahoo Shopping now endorses Paypal,Yahoo shoppers can now make payment via Paypal, the Yahoo store will receive an email saying you have just captured fund from so and so and the proceeds are depsoited in your Paypal account.
It is one of those alliances between Ebay and Yahoo to fend off Google advance!
I doubt if Yahoo will accept Google pay for its auctions if its stores have embraced Paypal, same goes for AMZN as it has its own so called 'ONE CLICK' payment.
Also neither AMZN nor YAHOO auctions do much business!

I know eBay doesn't allow Google Checkout through their own checkout system, but Vendio offers their own checkout system that could offer Google Checkout.

Vendio is not free to add Google Checkout to Vendio Checkout for Ebay auctions. Attempting to do so would be a breach of the contract that Vendio (as well as all 3rd party approved providers) has with Ebay, and could result in Vendio being cut off from Ebay altogether.

How did Paypal manage to get into Ebay when Ebay had Billpoint?
Paypal was offering 10 dollars sign up bonus and 10 dollars referral.
