How many of you have quit using PayPal? I am getting ready to come back to ebay, and need to know, if your not using PayPal, are you doing okay? What are you using?

I've never used it.(except to buy) Over 1400 sales, and 2 nasty emails because I don't take it. Money orders and personal checks works for me.
I know I'm loosing bidders because it's less convenient for them to have to snail mail me, but the end of auction results don't show it.

I use it as a seller and (knock on wood) have never had a problem. I think in the end it makes you more for your item's.
As a buyer if a seller does not accept PayPal I rarely bid on their items.

Depends...
If I were selling ANTIQUES & COLLECTS at AUCTION, I might be able to dump PP...
However, I sell NEW SCALES & BALANCES, and there's NO way to survive WITHOUT PP...many of my items ship the SAME DAY as PAYMENT RECEIVED, and the LABS and COMPANIES that throw BIG BUCKS for their equipment appreciate the speed, as well as does the housewife buying her 440lbs TALKING BATH SCALE...

What Tom said.
And I'll add that I've probably only had a dozen money orders or checks all year. EASILY 99.9% of my payments are in Paypal.
I also will not bid on an auction that I can't pay with Paypal. Maybe if there was something I really needed, but I haven't run into anything like that in YEARS,

We dumped PayPal at work some time ago and it turns out to be the best move we ever made. Our merchant account is far safer and considerably cheaper than PayPal too.

PayPal largely owes its existance to the failure of US banks to introduced free or low cost 'wire' transfers (or bank transfers as they are known in the rest of the world), mostly as it was thought to potentially undercut their profitable credit card businesses. Outside the USA bank transfers are the norm and are usually free or a minimal charge. I've been selling on eBay since the early days and still are happy to accept checks, money orders, cash, or bank deposits/transfers. Yes, I know eBay now frowns on such behaviour as it might diminish the revenue stream of their profitable non-bank PayPal, but I let my eBay and off-site feedback speak for my trustworthiness.

90% of my payments are in Paypal. People win they click on pay now. I sell antiques and collectables. I also have a merchant account with my bank. I list that as an option and would very much like to only offer it.... not both. BUT people like convienience, including me. As a buyer I have refused to bid on items I would have...because they don't accept paypal. I use that account to buy for resale. It is my personal slush fund.

Thanks everyone for your input. I have a friend that is a power seller and has mega problems right now with PayPal. They have froze the account for ebay and another account for their web site. I personally know this was caused by a buyer with buyers remorse who has used ever tactic in the book.

landotters,
It's smart to not be tied to one form of payment albeit PayPal or money orders. Always have a fall back position. In your friend the power seller's case a merchant account would provide better accountability in event of a charge back (or potential one) and with merchant accounts they don't freeze your account - they just put a hold on the amount in dispute. They also have the benefit of not being connected to eBay.

KNOWING that PayPal does NOT freeze accounts -- and hasn't for about FOUR years!
THEY only freeze the amount in DISPUTE!
THE ONLY TIME PAYPAL (and yer MERCHANT ACCOUNT ALSO) will freeze an entire account is when...

I strongly disagree with that statement. In our experience, the exact opposite has happened. Do we lose bidders? Sure we do. But we gain just as many that have had bad experiences with PayPal that absolutely refuse to use them.

I would have to disagree stone. I tried one month last year with no paypal and sales plummeted. The next week after I added PayPal to all my listing's again sales and final prices went back up to normal. For me no PayPal means low sales and prices.
I myself will not buy or bid on a item unless they accept PayPal unless I am in desperate need of it (and that hasn't happened in over 3 years). I have completly skipped over hundreds of store and auction listing's that I would have bid on or bought out of their stores if they had accepted PayPal. There's and your loose. No PayPal, no sale.

You strike an interesting question. When you did not offer PayPal, did you offer credit cards? We did and glad we did. 85% paid with credit card, 10% paid with PayPal and other 5% was checks, cash ect. With this in mind, it simply did not make any business sense to keep PayPal.
However, I could see a massive reduction in sales if you did not offer credit cards via your own merchant account.

It depends on what you sell,if you sell small items ,bidders may not want to fork over their credit card information to some seller on Ebay,or they just dont want to bother with sending the cc data in 2 emails or call a toll free or not toll free number to give you their credit card info.
Paypal works well for most sellers and buyers, for sellers you can park your money in its money market account which is now earning over 5 %,you can use your debit card as a credit card and go shopping,Paypal wil share its fee with you,a 1% rebate aint bad,it helps to reduce your Paypal fee.
So in all fairness,Paypal does not owe its existance to the US banking system not willing to do wiretranfer(it does ACH within US),it is a way for small sellers to conduct business without incurring the cost of having a merchant account,it integrates nicely with Ebay auctions and it is really a rather nifty cyber tool, think of it.
Paypal users are not limited to using credit card ,they can do E-check as well, but given the fact we are a cash poor and credit rich nation, most transactions are conducted via credit cards.
Other reasons I can think of why Paypal is popular is that many bidders are also sellers who have funds in their account and want to use them for payment, some have reasons to hide their fund in cyberspace eithe they are divorced ,pending divorced or for some reasaon do not want anyone to know .
