Will have to check my cross promotion setting's again to make sure they don't mysteriously change like often does on ebay.
***Update: Other Sellers’ Items Displayed on Closed Item Pages***
August 17, 2006 | 10:52AM PST/PT
Next week we're modifying the information we show buyers who come to eBay directly from an off-eBay site and land on a closed item page. When this happens, we will show similar active items from other sellers -- including their Gallery photos -- at the top of the page. Active items from the seller who listed the closed item will still be displayed directly underneath this section.
This change will help new buyers who come from outside eBay and are often confused about how to find active listings that match what they were originally looking for on other sites.
Sellers, please note: If you have Cross Promotion Connections set up with other sellers, those items will continue to be the only items displayed. Also, as before, you may opt out of this program. Doing so means your closed item pages will not display similar items from other sellers, nor will your active listings appear on other sellers' closed items.

So, are these the kinds of things they'll be doing with the extra store dollars? Everytime they make these changes they screw someone up. I think they have far too many techs working there with not enough to do.

Oh my...here we go again.
They have it the wrong way round. As a Seller who sells many similiar items why would I want another Sellers similiar items to show at the top of a closed listing whilst MY similiar items are below!
Better run and opt out on this if I can find where to do it!

You will be better off finding a trading partner. In our experience, opting out has not worked. If you have a buying id, use it as your trading partner. I did it and nothing shows up on my selling id on closed auctions any more.

Can't get worked up over this one. I don't think you guys are, either.
How do I know that? Simple.
If you were really concerned about the effect of bidders viewing your closed auctions, you would replace one or more pictures in your auctions after they close with a graphic that says:
Sorry, this one has found a happy home
with a satisfied buyer!

Stonecold...Great idea.
Fluffy..not sure I am following you. I am not concerned about bidders viewing MY closed items but I would rather they see more items that I still have available at the TOP rather than other sellers items which is what this announcement says.

otteropp: You can't control what eBay does, outside of a limited set of preferences you can set that occasionally and mysteriously get "unset".
All I'm saying is that if you are really really really concerned that someone who found your page through Google is going to land on your closed item page and be instantly swayed by a few other sellers' listings, there are things you can do, since there are certain aspects of even a closed listing that you *can* control.
I don't get the dustup about this issue anyway. eBay made it very clear years ago that as a seller I do not own the page that my item appears on. I paid 20 cents (usually) to have my item appear there for seven days, but I did not buy the page. Nor did you.
I am not sure why sellers think they have rights to the page after their rental of it has expired.

I do realise that I only "rent" the page and that EBay can do whatever they please however I try to control whatever it is my power to control (Okay...so I am a Control freak),
If I am able in any way to steer people to look at my listings instead of those of someone else...is that not good business?
What I am unable to control I don't worry about...I don't sweat the small stuff but I try to stay a step ahead.
If there is nothing I can do then.... c'est la vie!

If you choose to have your listings displayed on other's closed listings AND choose trading partners for cross-promotions, only your trading partners will be shown on your closed listings yet your listings will be shown on your trading partner's closed listings AND randomly on other closed lsitings. Perhaps a glitch but a benefit for those who have specified trading partners.

I can't believe I'm even writing this, but I can't argue with eBay on this one. From strictly a business perspective, this is actually a sound business decision on their part.
Like others have already pointed out, once the auction ends, the fees we paid to run that auction have been used up. Ebay can do as they please with that auction. We should actually feel a bit lucky because if they so pleased, they could deny access and delete the auction number entirely. ( that would be foolish, but they could do it.)
The fact that a possible random buyer can even see a closed auction is just a benefit for us. Trust me, if they like what they see they will take five more seconds and skim through the listing to find a link to the seller's other listings. We as sellers just need to make it easy for these potential customers to find this link! The truth is, good and clear listings won't have any problems.
As far as eBay listing items from other sellers. Again, the auction we paid for has ended, so it makes sense that they would want to show other items to draw these potential customers into the web of eBay to make a purchase or two.
The bottom line is this really is a no-brainer, and I think for once eBay got it right. I must now go vomit!

Excellent point. That's why a seller should try to make her auctions as engaging as possible.
You'll know you're doing it right when not only do you have great sellthrough, but you get email from people who saw your page, loved it and just had to let you know.

Stonecold showing his lack of class...Really mature...So, if you don't agree with someone you just resort to childish insults? Someone needs to grow-up.

So what you are saying FK is it makes good business sense to send potential buyers away from your listings?
Nothing is further from the truth. Even closed auctions are still potential sale items. People search them all the time. In fact, it was not unusual at all to receive e-mails stating they missed the end of the auction and could I put it back up and let them know. The new system will virtually eliminate that. With other sellers items (of the same exact thing) all the potenial buyer does is click one of the other items. Losing me a chance for a sale and taking money out of my pocket. Not to mention the potential to buy other items I may have. Simply put, fluffy didn't use her brain and this proves it.

Stone, choose a trading partner of non-competing items, only the trading partner's items will show and if you opt in to X promotions, your items will show on your competitor's closed listings.

Stonecold...No, I think you misundterstood what I was trying to say. I mean that it is actually good business sense on ebay's part to list other seller's items at the top of the ended listings. They want these poetential buyers to click on as many different items as they can, which could lead to more $$ for ebay. Of course it doesn't help the seller who sold that item. But again, since the auction has ended, eBay can do as they please with that auction.
I look at this way....If the seller makes a clear and professional looking ad, the potential buyer will take a few moments anyway to look throuh the listing before doing anything else.
Ebay is actually doing us a favor by leaving these ended auctions out there. If the seller made a top-noth listing it will only help bring in more customers.
So, in conclusion, I feel that both the seller and eBay can benefit from this.

I'm not sure why I bother.
Fish. Barrel. Bang.
Three Things Stonecold Has Forgotten In Addition to His Shoe Size and Where He Put His Car Keys:
1) This only affects people who come directly to eBay from an off-eBay site such as Google. It does not affect people who are already on eBay doing completed item searches.
2) The original seller's items are also displayed on the page, as well as the View Seller's Other Items link, which is bolded. The original seller retains primacy.
3) If you set up cross promotions with another seller, those will be the items to appear. I don't see anything that says that the other seller or sellers can't be you under a different selling ID. The top four sellers on eBay are all the same company. I'd bet money they cross-promote each other on their closed listings.
