I recently purchase this wooden owl figurine. I think it is hand carved. About 10" tall. It is very well done, with the natural features of the wood used to very pleasing effect. I am not sure how to describe it. Is it worth listing?

Amber, I had one that sounds a lot like yours. about 2ft tall however. It was not particulary old I sold it at Brimfield last spring for $125.00 give or take $10. Hope this helps..... The person who bought it put it on top of a fence post in her back yard... nice idea.

Yes, I might call it Folk Art. Hand-carved Owl...if you can identify the wood will help. It's really nice!

Sort of looks like the carvings of animals that have come from Indonesia - Bali possibly- in the past 10 yesrs. You might do a search.

I don't know the wood at all, I thought I recognized most woods. The lady I bought it from was Australian, so it may be from there.

If a collector likes it, he'll buy it. He won't give a hoot what kind of wood it is.

As I stated yesterday it looks like all the ones from Indonesia ( Bali) that I have seen in gift shops here. They carve all sorts of animals in various sizws but it would be difficult to state what kind of wood it is. They have different trees growing in that part of the world and none of the tags attached to these carvings in stores state the type wood.

Looks like it has glass eyes? If so say that in the title. Decoy collectors maybe interest in something like this. Lovely piece

I've got some carvings I bought in Bali and the wood is much darker. But I agree...I think there is a wide variety of wood used and my carvings don't have the type of wood identified either.

ladyjewels, no, it has painted eyes. This is not a fine art piece, the wood is hollow at the back, and there are "growths" for a better word that look like fungal growths, but they are wood. I am pretty sure they are not carved, but natural. There is a lot of graining on the wood, it could be from a burl, it has that kind of look. I am sure this is a "one off" piece because you would have to find identical shaped wood to make 2 alike.
Blueyes: I have looked at the Bali ones, and this doesn't look like those at all.
