Is it just me or is it really dead on ebay right now. I have not sold anything all week, I don't have any watchers and not too many lookers?
I don't have as much listed in auction right now - could that be my problem?

No, not just you. Dead on Ebay this week. Watchers are probably in Atlantic City for the big antiques show this weekend. I notice a big drop in business when there are big shows.

I had a HUGE amount of watchers last week. Of course I had more auctions going too. Only one sale. How disappointing. Oh well, back to changing my business plan

See the thread here, "why is everyone quiet about the search mess"--there may be some answers there.

It seems that many people have "lost" their saved searches and also when searching the "back button" after viewing an item does not return the same search. Also "advanced search" seems to be corrupted somehow with some bad coding on ebay's end...it's no wonder no one is watching if they can't find you!

Some of my auctions closed this week with less than 5 watchers. In the past I have had over 100, it must be the search problems.

Just read the other post and that's just sad (for us).
I have one item that listed last night - on a normal day it would have had 30 or 40 hits by now - 14 so far.

I am also find that my items are not indexed (or appearing in my store) until several hours after launch. I think we are losing the buyers who browse "newly listed" because of the late indexing. I usually have one or two bids the night I list and I haven't had a bid on ANYTHING I have listed since 10-10. Something is just NOT RIGHT!

I don't know where the watcher went, but I can tell you that they sure aren't bidding.

Maybe everyone is busy playing ebayMatchups.

Fluffy:

Before I opened my eBay store, my Vendio sales were on average 60% of total sales. After I opened my eBay store, my Vendio sales disappeared. This happened for a number of reasons:
1. Listing new and good stuff to eBay rather than vendio.
2. Old customers going to eBay to buy from me.
3. New customers seeing that eBay items were cheaper in some cases then the vendio store.

Can you say shoot yourself in the foot! I feel dumb in retrospect.

Since the ebay store price increase, I have moved my old customers and most of my new regulars back to the vendio store. I am back up to over 10,000 items in vendio.

Most of my key customers have bought in the past 3-4 weeks. And they usually spend $45 to $100/ sale.

In addition, I am getting a lot of new single sales. For example, today I got a sale on a 1927 Chevrolet ad. Go to Google and type in 1927 Chevrolet ad. I will be in the top 5 listings.

Both Google and Froogle have improved since Vendio got its feeds right and since I removed the referral link in the vendio store home page.

Long ramble here for a short question. Bascially, I am achieving Powerseller level sales on vendio. That, to me, is kicking.

vintageads4u is abaolutley right......we're slowly working away from Ebay because Amazon is Smokin'and Ebay is SLOW !.......it's tons simpler to use, you don't have to wait for payments--the money is automatically there when the buyer hits submit order------no stupid paypal fees to worry about--and best of all NO LISTING FEES !.......The auction format at Ebay is pretty much non existent unless you have something extremely unique and I don't believe buyers understand how the stores even work (even if the search functions worked properly)..my opinion if Ebay had kept it simpler to use and not been so greedy as far ads fees go....it would have still been vibrant but---Not So.

I have a ton of watchers on my things. That's just the problem. A "watcher" is not necessarily a buyer. I'd rather not know.

Miracle of Miracles! One of my postcards with many watchers ended today - and it sold for my highest price ever! Even better than the Titanic!

Of course all of the bidders were from outside the US - maybe it's just the US site that is broken?

The postcard was from Bermuda but I think the interest was postal history (censor stamp) and not the postcard itself.

I'm sooo jealous, sister Neglus - congrats! I have a large number of 'groupies' following my auctions - family members, friends and postcard club buddies, so watcher count is never very dependable for me!

My sells were so bad for about 2-3 weeks not I don't have on anything at ebay. Watchers were non existant and buyers and lookers way down. I am taking a vacation from selling this past week and maybe next week too. I am thinking opening my vendio store again and hope for best.

I suspect many "watchers" are interested sellers, looking to see what your item goes for so they will know how to price theirs. Why else would buyers be "watching" items that have a BIN for only a penny more than the starting price??

I liked eBay better before they had the watchlist feature. People would actually bid during the first 6 days of an auction.

Hi Beth

In your statement:
"Both Google and Froogle have improved since Vendio got its feeds right and since I removed the referral link in the vendio store home page."

Could you explain your theory on how removing the Vendio link from your listings and home page improves Google hit rate? I also have a similar sized Vendio Store and use the link to drive ebay customers to my site. I pulled all my stock months ago and have left only high sell thru rate items in ebay. Chuck

I had 12 watchers on an item that just closed and 2 bidders. I no longer get excited about watchers.

I use the Watch this Item occasionally. Usually, it's because I don't think I want to buy but would like a quick link in case I change my mind. I used it this week to reference acceptable items for my son to review for his Halloween costume - very handy! Of course, when MY items are watched, I hope they are by a sniping program which rarely happens... well, I can dream, can't I?

I no longer get excited about watchers.

Oh, don't go over to that OTher WAckjob place and say that. They get vewy, vewy upset if one even so much as hints that Watchers are not the most important people in the eBay Universe.

I had one eBay fruitfly get testy with me because I wasn't bowing and scraping before her. "I have four Watches on your items, I'll have you know!"

I said, "Want to be taken seriously? Bid."

Holy SaMolly Neglus! I had no idea that little censor mark was worth so much.

Now I have to go through that old box of paper I was just about to donate to charity.

As for sales, mine died too. I'm having June dejavue. Half my items keep disaoppearing in the search. And between the people who post their websites on their auction page and the ones who copy my listings, I'm beginning to get a little testy.

Chuckatcd:

It was the ebay referral link. The poster vintagepostcard.org remarked that google does not like to search url's that have "refid" or other markers.

I checked and believe she is right. Since I removed the eBay url link that had the referral in it, my listings have reappeared on google. I checked the cache dates and there was a period of time, google was not crawling all the way through.

So, it is the eBay referral link, not the vendio link that was the culprit.

The items I listed last night did not appear in Search until four hours later. This is just totally crazy! Why can't ebay handle a regular volume of new listings and get items indexed in a reasonable amount of time? What happens when things get "busy"? I finally gave up on listing. I sold ONE item out of 48 ended yesterday!! WTF?? I have never had it THIS bad.

Neglus, I, too, am very diappointed in recent sales. No items sold on Sunday or the rest of the week for that matter. I have been concerned about the new TV lineup, Wold Series playoffs, football, etc grabbing people's attention, so I have experimented with various days, changing the hours I ususally list, etc. Nada. What fries me is that Ebay is still getting its listing fees, especially if you add those many, many additional costly enhancements. Even with a free relist, they still get their fees on gallery, subtitle, etc. Which I rarely use any more because it didn't seem to make any difference in sell through.

2 weeks ago my sales were smoking, now there isn't even a smolder.......
