I was under the impression at the start of the year when we started filling out those 6 ply forms at the post office for overseas shipping (the ones that took the place of the 2976a) the little green one----that packages were trackable. At least that is what i was told. We have a package that I have a receipt for, but the buyer has never received it in Austrailia, after checking the USPS web site, it says there is no such #.......My postmaster tells me it's probably not left the US----when it leaves USA it is then scanned and trackable, NOT SO !....I called the 1 800 help # at USPS and they told me those new forms meant nothing as far as tracking goes.--WHAT GIVES ?....ANYONE ELSE ENCOUNTERED THIS PROBLEM ?

I always only use the little green ones unless the package is over a certain size. I thought the large customs forms were for larger packages. I don't think it's trackable unless you purchase the insurance, but I'm not even sure about that.

The LIDDLE GREEN FORM has never been traceable, and is only to be used for items UNDER 4lbs (and I believe <$400 value?)...
Susposedly, the white CUSTOMS FORM is tracking friendly, but my experience (x2) does not bear this out -- the tracking STOPPED at the USA AIRPORT
For TRUE TRACKING ON INTERNATIONAL SHIPPING VIA USPS, I think the ONLY options are:
1) GLOBAL EXPRESS MAIL
~or~
2) REGISTERED MAIL (remember to seal all seams with paper tape ONLY)
As far as I know, the BLUE DOMESTIC INS sticker (>$50) IS trackable, but the INTERNATIONAL INS is not (???)

May be yours is not scanned.

thats my question.......local post office tells me its scanned at the point when it leaves the US.....lady at USPS on the 800 help line says the number on the sheet means nothing (it doesn't necessarily ever have to be scanned). I remember when Mikes4x4 said packages were trackable with the new form (and thats what I was told at my post office), but now I'm being told thats not true.

Not sure why you are having trouble. I have been able to track my interntationals all the way to delivery for the last few months.
I print my labels and customs forms through PayPal and usually just hand to package to my postman. I can track the label to departure port and then go to the destination country's postal system and can see it there as well.
Check the tracking on this package. I had to take it to the PO because it was liquid.
Go to the USPS website- enter LZ529665076US into the tracking field. On the next page Click on "additional details".
This is not the best example because my Canadian shipments usually arrive in 5 days. This one was stuck in out-going customs for a week. Guess they did not like the liquid caution label. I've been meaning to write a new topic about that. There is some depressing news for flat rate mail.
