Ran across auction #290041440899. Fell in love with the photography. Anybody know how he did the first pic? Notice where the table leg is. Did he just put the table in front of large piece of black fabric, or is more going on here?

It looks like he might be using a large roll of seamless background paper and a paper stand (or just taping one end to the wall). It's a standard photography technique that gives you a consistent non-distracting background behind the object.

Fluffy is correct. In photo parlance it's called a "sweep". The lighting they used is very diffused, possibly a soft box.

The same effect can be obtained by using black felt material, at a much lower cost.
I have pieces in several different colors, that I use for various objects. For instance, you wouldn't want a black background with a dark object.

Nah, it is unlikely to be one of the photocubes, unless they have the 55" cube, which is pretty rare. It's also not necessary.
You can get the same effects with a table, black seamless paper that you allow to extend over the side of the table, something that you place the cloth on, and 2-4 lights or 2-3 strobes (in a pinch you could do it with one strobe bounced off an umbrella).

I use different colors of material buy it by yard but my wife has a huge supply of sewing material in almost any color I could want.
I have also stood behind a black cloth while taking reflective pics keeps clutter or your reflection off the item but is a hassel to hang etc but have done it.
