This large hand-painted wood plaque was purchased at an estate sale in Maui. Can anyone tell me where it might have originally come from? It looks Indoneisan to me...maybe Bali? Thailand? India? but I haven't a clue. Any help will be greatly appreciated...Thanks!

That's what I was thinking, too, paloma...but before I listed it, thought I'd see what experts would say...Thanks...any more opinions?

I would say more Bali,Indonesia than India, look at the dragons, thats Indonesian style.
Besides Indian seldom features dragons,I dont recall them ever have dragons in their mythology-ganesha yes,big rat yes, cobra yes,but no dragon.

Yep , the dragon does cut a gap in my theory .. but why would they have that mark on their forehead? Muslims don't do that.
Maybe they are Indian dancers in Bali or perhaps they are Hindus that moved to Bali
Thailand is mostly Buddhist - they do not dot their foreheads . Thailand does do the Dragon theme.
WOW this is confusing, see why I do not try to read art (grin)

Although Indonesia is a Muslim country most Balinese follow a type of Hinduism crossed with ancestor worship.

Thanks, all, for the informed opinions...Looks like consensus opinion is Indonesian so will go with that...appreciate the input and help!

I will go with Bali also since Bali is overwhelmingly Hindu. Add the Asian dragon to that and you can rule out India. Thais are predominately Buddhists.
