Current speculation (on the tube) is that one or more explosive devices were placed between the PayPal building and what eBay calls "The Town Square". Not sure what that latter is.
Spokesbots for SJFD and eBay are not commenting on that rumor.
A fire captain came out and said that the windows in the four-story structure (presumably at 2211 North First Street) are pretty thick and about 6 by 7 feet and that it would take an explosive device to shatter them. "You can't just throw a rock through one," he said. "This is considered a high-rise because it is four stories, so the glass is strong."
Oh yeah, and the bomb squad is on the scene.

I have been looking everywhere for information and only that link you gave says anything at all. Guess Cnn isn't interested yet. That is just too weird and if it was bombs it could affect millions of people if they had destroyed records or what ever they call all our accounts. Bet they have off site ? backup I hope. This could be very disturbing news in more than one way.

irked, there's no reason to believe that PayPal servers live there.
In fact, I would bet that that complex is all offices, conference rooms and cafeterias.
Expensive high-availability servers these days tend to be clustered in either large shared farms ( "colo space" ) in locked floor-to-ceiling cages inside nondescript secured buildings, or in their own nondescript secured building. I very much doubt there is any kind of sign that says PayPal or eBay where the servers live.
These buildings are all over the SF Bay Area. I could tell you where some of them are, but then I'd have to... Oh, you know.

LOL fluff, I bet they are hidden at least hopefully from the general public. Hope it isn't a disgruntaled employee more like a community member if it was someone at all. Not that I am saying that but there were a lot of store owners real pizzed off back in August. Wonder if they are talking about it at boards at ebay? Would not know where to look over there.
Thanks for sharing will be interesting to see if national news picks it up and reports it. If you find out who what where let us know well ya know what I mean.

I came over here to see if anyone was talking about it.
I was reading a posting on the store board about it and Ebay zapped it within minutes of being posted. I clicked back to see if anyone had confirmed it was for real and "poof" it was gone.

I am willing to bet that it was either an eBay store seller who is ticked about the 10 FVF or just a regular seller who just realized that feebay is FORCING us to use the new seller's form on relists.
Before I steal Fluff's thread, I am going to post a Jack Rant about the new form. It will not be pretty!

Blast at PayPal forces evacuation of 26 employees
By Sandra Gonzales
Mercury News
An explosion at eBay's PayPal division Tuesday night shattered a window and forced the evacuation of 26 employees, as crews combed the company's North First Street complex for incendiary devices.
No one was injured inside the company's four-story network operations center at 2211 N. First St. in San Jose, and no explosive devices were found in the rest of the company's 100,000-square-foot complex, which police had cordoned off Tuesday night. EBay officials say operations were not disturbed.
``Whatever caused it was pretty strong,'' San Jose Fire Capt. Jose Guerrero said.
Authorities received multiple reports of a smoke detector alarm sounding at 7:34 p.m., Guerrero said, followed a few minutes later by multiple calls of an explosion.
When crews arrived, they found a 6-by-7-foot window had been shattered near a first-floor exit between the network operations center and a nearby building at 2161 N. First St. The window's frame was bent and a light haze covered the area, Guerrero said. No flames, however, were visible, nor was there any other damage. Other debris was in the area, said Guerrero, who couldn't say Tuesday night exactly what the debris was.
Meanwhile, teams from the federal Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco Firearm and Explosives, San Jose fire's hazardous-materials crew and the San Jose police bomb squad were roaming the buildings. Guerrero said no other explosive devices were found.
Authorities have suspicions about what may have caused the blast, Guerrero said, but he declined to disclose them. No threats were reported ahead of the explosion, Guerrero said. San Jose police are taking over the investigation.
Employees were expected to be allowed back inside early today.
``It was fortunate that no one was hurt,'' said Catherine England, an eBay spokeswoman.
England said she expected business to return to normal today. But she encouraged employees to check their e-mail and to call the emergency numbers on backs of their badges before heading to work today.

My, how times have changed. Not too long ago the news would state that it was a bomb and now they add: ``It wasn't anything radioactive,''. That's scarey. If it were radioactive, do you think that us Vendions who live less than 20 miles away from their headquarters would be effected? I've never heard of a radioactive bomb that was set off anywhere except during WW II Am I missing something? OR was it stated just for the drama effect?

"Wow, do you think they've finally pizzed off the wrong person"
When all is said and done I bet this is the answer.... geeze... road rage... ebay rage... we live in tense times!
And my husband wonders why I love Dancing with the Stars? No brainer it is a NO STRESS thing! one thing that is no stress in this world... I'm grateful

Last night at approximately 7:30 pm Pacific time, there was an explosion at eBay’s campus on the north side of San Jose, California. I’m relieved to report that nobody was injured and that eBay’s service was not affected. Fortunately, minimal damage was sustained to the one building impacted, and our eBay and PayPal teams are fully operational today.
We’re concerned, of course, about the cause of this incident, and needless to say, eBay is working closely with local and federal law enforcement agents in their investigation.

bj~ I enjoyed watching Jerry....not all that good, but he was entertaining. It's hard to dislike someone that makes you smile.
I wonder if eBay "working closely with local and federal law enforcement agencies" will cause even more problems...
