We had our grand opening of Trader Joe's take place today.
Now I need some info from you winos out there.
I went in and found the 2 buck chuck, but don't know what to buy.
Looking for a semi-sweet wine, and the labels didn't help at all. I've never heard of some of the types.
P.S. 2 buck chuck is $2.99 a bottle!

We've had 'em all. Currently our favorite is Sauvignon Blanc. But do try them all. You never know what will appeal to you. (Where do you live?)

Try the Chardonnay. I like the drier varieties but 3 buck chuck's is very good. The parking at ours is terrible, but I still like to go there to stock up on their coffee, cheese (great selection, great prices) and dried fruit and nuts. They also have a peanut butter stuffed pretzel that makes a good snack for the kids.

Oh, and don't overlook their wonderful natural peanut butter and (yummmmmm) cashew butter!
You'll like just about everything in that store; it's top-ranked by Consumer Reports for customer service and low!! prices. Their selection is just outstanding.

None of the two buck chucks are semi sweet. However, look for the Gamay Beaujlois, which you may like. It is more of a semi dry with a hint of fruit. You might like that. If you find that too dry, they have a rose for $3.99 that my be better for you.

As long as we're off track, I have to put in a plug for my other favorite grocery store - Grocery Outlet. The food is the same quality as it is at my local Safeway and I easily save over 50% every time I shop there. For deli slices, cheese, wine (although ones you've never heard of), frozen entree's (Stouffer's, Marie Callander's), frozen chicken, pizzas, canned, cleaning and paper goods their prices can't be beat.

I'm in Milwaukee. The grand opening was awesome. There was a band playing in one corner of the store near the checkouts, and on the opposite side of the store were a pair of musicians with a violin and guitar. The place was wall to wall shoppers, and it seemed like everyone had a cart full.
Not recognizing any of the different types of wine, I watched what other people were taking, and brought home a bottle of Chardonnay. It's a little dry as far as I'm concerned, and has a bit of an aftertaste.
The shelves were stocked with foods that I've never seen before, and the produce looked great.
My wife is upset that I didn't wait and go with her. We'll probably go back tomorrow, and do some serious shopping.

Must depend on where you live. Where I live in CA it's still $2.00 a bottle but I think maybe it comes from the Napa region so maybe that's why.

Do I win a prize? I have been shopping at TJs since 1971 while attending college in Pasadena,CA. I think that is where they first started. It was wonderful to shop there as a student as they were and still are very very reasonable and healthy.
I LOVE TJs!!!!
Congrats to anyone that has a TJs near you. You will become very addicted to everything. Everyone in my family shops there but not too many of my friends???

Love TJ! Too bad food stores can not sell wine in Maryland. It is not a convenient place for us to shop (hard to park) but we make a run for nuts, low carb chips, and a sugar free dark chocolate that my husband is addicted to every few weeks.

I live in Thousand oaks (about 50 miles south of Santa Barbara). If you are looking at property in Santa Barbara, you are not buying... Just about everything is a million or more.
They opened a trader joes about 3 blocks from my house about a year ago, and it is now the 1st place I stop for my shopping. They have good breakfast cereals (not great, but good). Their frsh packaged foods (salads, sandwiches, so on) are very tasty and not that bad for you. I don't do wine, so I can't help you there. Overall, I am so glad that Whole Foods moved out and TJ's moved in.

They are opening a store near me this winter (but we didn't make the list of "opening soons" and I can't wait! They opened another store in the Minneapolis area but parking near there is the PITS! They got around the grocery store selling liquor prohibition by opening an adjacent store for the wine and beer (can't remember if the other MN store sold hard liquor too).
Now that we are nearly empty nested (except when kids are home on school breaks)I think we will retire the Sam's Club membership and shop at Trader Joe's. SIGH! This must be a Rite of Passage for the AARP set.

My absolute MUST HAVES from TJ's are
Greek style yogurt........ it is thick & dense like sour cream and not candy sweet like what you find in regular markets. So addicting and their plain version is perfect for meditteranean or Indian sauces if you like to replace yogurt for cream.
TJ's version of Cheeto's The crunchy kind is reduced fat and isn't as salty tasting, giving you that sick feeling when you eat too many cheetos.
TJ's have these cookies (not always available) they are like chinese fortune cookies but they are discs about the size of a 50 cent piece and have sesame seeds in them. When I find them I stock up like the end of the world is coming........
TJ's coffee is FABULOUS! Any of their roasts are top notch. They only sell it in whole bean but they have a grinder if you don't have one at home.
*NOTE* To max40 In your quest for a semi-sweet wine.... Try a Reisling or Gewurtztraminer. Semi-sweet wines are in fluted bottles to give you a hint on how to find them. Both are white.
