I have been researching this little pin. It is a tad over 1 1/4" high and the back is imprinted "Sterling", what appears to be an unreadable hallmark, and "Blackinton". I can find a lot of information on a US company that still makes badges and an English company that made silver jewelry under that name till the 1960s. I can not find anything with this exact arrangement of the anchor and caduceus.

The symbol for the U S Public Health Service is an anchor and caduceus but in the only pictures I found the anchor is flipped or clockwise. Could a symbol for USPHS have the anchor counter clockwise? I found an eBay message board where someone is describing what seems like our pin with the same back information and were told it might be US Navy. Can anyone who knows military emblems give us any help with an ID?

No exact match from my WWII era insignia identification guide... however, maybe some possible leads... the Caduceus definitely points to someone in the medical field... as for the Anchor... it looks like it's positioned the same way the anchor is for an Officer and Chief warrant officer for the US Coast Guard. So... maybe it's a medical officer for the US coast guard? Just a thought...

Was Tomwii Coast Guard? Maybe he will look at the post. My sister says I should have cleaned the dirt out of the crevasses before I scanned it.

I think I found the answer!

Apparently, it is for the USPHS... the direction of the anchor simply depends on which side of the uniform you put it on!

Hope that helps!

Eauctionmgnt you are a champ! The only sites I found were modern PHS sites that did not give that kind of detail. I even found that what I have is a miniature collar insignia. I also notice that I typed the size incorrectly. It is only 5/8" high.

This site you found is about World War II women's service organizations. I wonder if my pin was from that era. I suspect it is from the material I found it with.

Thanks
