Just read this on the CNN site. The problem is that I could have one of these and not know what it was.

Story on eBay record sale.

What a story!!
My hubby has over 10,000 albums - mostly rock.
I know there are some real valuable albums out there but it's not an area for the beginner.
A few years ago I was giving my husband a little bit of grief for buying so many albums, so when he found a Beatle's album at a garage sale for $1.00, he said I could sell it if I could get at least $20 for it.
I did a quick ebay search and found the same album had just sold for $400.00. The seller had stated that it was a rare Stereo copy and only 6 or so had been found todate.
Ours was stereo as well so I wrote the seller and he was nice enough to tell me what to look for - we had a winner!!! It was missing the sleeve and had an inch long scratch so we only got $600 for it. Had I not seen that one sell for that much - I guess I would have listed it for $19.99 and sold it for that.
Needless to say my husband can buy all the albums he wants now.

The value was not in the object, the value was in the research done to find out what it was.

Hope you're right, deja. I find the fun , if not the money, is in the research. Had a teaser this morning: a nice Detroit Publishing Co. postcard (circa 1910) titled "The handorgan man in Hepzibath's Day. Handwritten on the front: "Program held a few year's back". Tried to find out more about "Hepzibath's Day" but Google only found others who were pondering the same postcard. I was a little bothered by the outfits, which were more circa 1850 than 1910. Also, the word choice of "in" instead of "on" bothered me. Could this be a reenactment? Searching my brain cells dedicated to worthless trivia, I remembered a Hepzibah in The House of the Seven Gables. I found a searchable online version of the novel, did a search on "organ" and found the exact scene depicted. Mystery solved, but will it pay for my research time? I guess some things you do for the love of it.
