Any guesses as to when eBay will have their Christmas season reduced listing day?

I am guessing the 26th, being a Tuesday and all.

It varies from year to year and eBay site to site. Checking my records I'd think you'd be right. Also expect a couple of UK 5p listing days around the 29 Dec and 12 Jan going on past experience. Hope this helps someone.

eBay Tip: if you use want to discover the actual date in advance, simply go through the motions of launching an auction and set it to start on a date when a "promo" is expected. You'll notice if the listing fee is reduced (or not).

set it to start on a date when a "promo" is expected.

This is an interesting theory. Have you tried it?

Actually I am already listing items. Just having the start time Jan 9th.

Then when it really happens, revising to start during the actual date can be done quickly. Even with the Ebay glitches.

agit.. EBAY TIP, if that really works, which I doubt since it would let the cat out of the bag and give us all time to prepare, which is counter to Ebays mode of operation; it is NOT the 26th since I just scheduled an auction to begin then and no discount.

I have scheduled items before that just happened to fall on promo days and the promo price did not appear until it was announced.

Auction counts, based on the number of items I'm finding in saved searches, have to be really low -- I usually get about 1400 quilts, now it's 900, etc. etc. Checking the medved auction charts shows NO stats for several days, which is also unusual. Last count was 14.5 million on 12-16 and heading down sharply. An indicator, however, that something should be coming along, just so it's not 12-24!

A blessed holiday to all of you!

Hmmm, it really is unusual about not stats on medved.I emailed them, but no reply yet. I would not be surprised if the promo is 12/24. Be prepared.

Powersellersunite has the count at 10,000,000 as of 12/23. I am not a member so I can't view the chart - don't know how accurate their count is.

Edited to ad: levels were about the same this date in 2005 and even went down to 9,000,000 on the 26th and then ZOOMED up to 17,000,000 on the 27th.

Thanks for that link -- interesting. Checked the charts and they look about right, or very similar to medved's as far as they go.

Of course in the early days of ebay, free listings sometimes (always?) took place BEFORE Christmas ...

Sorely tempted here to launch a few now, and not wait to save a couple of cents and flounder in the clutter that's sure to ensue. Whaddya think?

I always list my under $25.00 auctions ahead of the reduced price day. Then list all my higher priced auctions on free or reduced price day. I always do good with those early listings and have some listed now.

I try not to have those early listings coming off where they would fall on the same days as the 3 day or 5 day auctions from free or reduced listings. I can only guess on that.

Thanks toolhound, I think that's a great strategy! Well worth a try -- I always do best with less than 12 million listings anyway, and I believe that's right now.

Well it's isn't going to be the 26th. We will have to keep our eyes on the ebay announcement boards. I hope they don't scrooge like they did in 2004 where they didn't do one until most of the sellers complained.
