The sad passing of a decent and honorable AMERICAN...

"Eternal Father, Strong to save,
Whose arm hath bound the restless wave,
Who bid'st the mighty Ocean deep
Its own appointed limits keep;
O hear us when we cry to thee,
for those in peril on the sea.

O Christ! Whose voice the waters heard
And hushed their raging at Thy word,
Who walked'st on the foaming deep,
and calm amidst its rage didst sleep;
Oh hear us when we cry to Thee
For those in peril on the sea!

Most Holy spirit! Who didst brood
Upon the chaos dark and rude,
And bid its angry tumult cease,
And give, for wild confusion, peace;
Oh, hear us when we cry to Thee
For those in peril on the sea!

O Trinity of love and power!
Our brethren shield in danger's hour;
From rock and tempest, fire and foe,
Protect them wheresoe'er they go;
Thus evermore shall rise to Thee,
Glad hymns of praise from land and sea."

Sad news. I didn't realize he was 93

He might have been re-elected if he hadn't of pardoned Nixon.

He was a decent American and, IMHO had the best taste in choosing his first lady, Goodbye, Gerry!

Whether you are a Republican or Democrat...It's so sad when a former president dies.

Ford was basically a decent man.
We were lucky to have a decent man like him take the reins at that time.
The President and Vice President had made Americans lose respect for most if not all those in Washington at that time.

Ford was kind, honest, very polite and open during his term.

I think he was really much too good and honest to be a great president. Is that not sad?

I especially admire how he supported his wife in her endeavors to fight breast cancer and substance addiction.

I had forgotten that he was never elected to Pres or Vice Pres. So I guess we were really lucky to have him.
He will be missed

Ford was a decent, good man. Not the brightest of our presidents, but surely one of the best all-round guys.

We live in the mountains above Palm Springs/Palm Desert/Rancho Mirage, etc. etc. He and Betty were loved here--partly because so many are Republicans, but also because of all the good they did since leaving the presidency.

The first time I had to go down there for a medical emergency, it was like another planet. Bob Hope Drive, Frank Sinatra Drive, Dinah Shore Drive, ad infinitum. Then the Eisenhower Medical Center is a huge complex that includes the Betty Ford Center (for addictions) and many other facilities. All in a beautiful setting, of course.

Ford and his wife did a lot of fundraising for that center and for many other good causes.

roady:

The myth about President Ford's intellectual weight is common but mistaken -- he did graduate in the TOP 1/3 of his Yale Law School class! Yikes! Me & Ralphie struggled thru Ding-Dong School, doncha know??!!

There used to be a whole generation of Republican leaders who I respected and admired -- I may have disagreed on just about EVERYTHING they endorsed, but never did I doubt their honesty,integrity, patriotism, and just plain good old fashioned "kindness of mind & spirit"...

I was a BIG FAN of Barry Goldwater; I enjoyed reading William F. Buckley; I thought Jacob Javits was great; etc, etc...

...and I ALMOST, almost voted for Gerry Ford...

It all seems like such a long time ago...

Yes, Tom, I remember now that it wasn't his brain power that was in question! Wasn't he the president who kept tripping and having minor accidents?

"I'm Ralphie...and you're NOT!"

Chevy Chase did him in...

Tom, you've got a SNL great memory, forgot Chevy's prat falls aimed at President Ford.

Wasn't that Miss Fran who taught Ding Dong school?

Correct me if I'm wrong.

Lets see, a Decent man becomes President, but is not elected as either President of Vice-President... Seems like some kind of connection.
