I need a new checking account. Endicia keeps nagging me to get rid of my credit card and go with checking account withdrawal, ut I'm not going to do that with my "real" account.

Does anyone have an ONLINE bank you can recommend? I was planning on going over and opening a second account tomorrow at my regular bank, but was hoping for an alternative.

NetBank. I have been a customer for at least 8 years. No service fees and deposits can be made by free overnight mail if necessary.

You owe it to yourself to check out ING Direct as an option. We have one account with them and have found that they have been the BEST customer service that we've experienced - with almost any retail financial service provider.

They also provide a great interest rate.

Let us know what you think once you check them out.

I also have an ING account, along with one from HSBC, among others. However, NetBank is the only one of the stated three that has a beneficiary choice available.

That way, if you were to die, the proceeds in the NetBank account will automatically pass to your beneficiary, rather than to your estate. What does this mean? No probate taxes on the cash in your NetBank account.

Now, the opposite holds true with the cash in your ING, HSBC, and even a PayPal account. No beneficiary available, therefore any cash in those accounts will go directly to Probate. After taxes and attorney fees are paid from the proceeds, you family can have whatever is leftover.

I'm not looking for big-time finance. I'll probably never have more then three or four hundred dollars in it- just enough to cover a few days online postage purchases

But I will check out all of them!

"I'm not looking for big-time finance"

Apparently, you are not married. Or, you plan on knowing the exact date of your demise. That way you can remove the money from your account the day before you die. You do know that family members will have to go to court to access the funds if needed.

Also, ING is only offering a savings account with limited withdrawls. Same with HSBC, CapitalOne, Emigrant Savings, etc.

Just how fast do you think the bank will learn of your demise? set it up so someone knows how to get in immediately and withdraw the funds would that not work. Some one you trust or at least write it all down to be don immediately upon yor demise. No one know about contents til you pass? Why would that not work? Too simple? maybe I am just in denial.

Better yet, why tell anyone that the person died? Just bury them in the backyard. Make sure the hole is deep so the dogs do not dig up the body. That way no one will ever know that someone died. Then there will be no Probate.

Empty out the bank accounts and wait for the authorities to catch up with you.

Here's a thought. How about telling Endicia to kiss your rear end and either accept your credit card or your leaving.

No way I would ever give a bank account number to any of these online companies. I want the consumer protection that is offered with credit cards. At least then you have some control as to what you are charged. If they over-charge you, then you can do something about it. If they over-charge you on a bank account, you are at the mercy of Endicia.
