Here is part of an email I recieved from eBay. Looks like we will soon have to pay for looking at eBay closed auctions. I have noticed the closed auction list keeps getting shorter. Only goes back about a week to 10 days.

Thank you for taking a few moments to speak with me. I wanted to send you a follow-up email to our conversation about eBay Marketplace Research.

As you know, market research is an essential part of the listings strategy. Understanding demand, typical sale prices and what products sold is critical to selling success. We think you will find eBay Marketplace Research helpful. This tool offers information on buying and selling, so you can decide what products will have the highest success rates.

There are three subscription levels available to you for a nominal fee.

1) Marketplace Research Fast Pass ($2.99 for 2 days access) - Get critical information on both active and completed eBay listings. Fast Pass gives you access to over 60 days of completed listings, along with charts, metrics and trends on average sold prices, and sold price ranges.

2) Marketplace Research Basic ($9.99 per month) - In addition to all the features in Fast Pass, view the top searches on eBay, and view additional metrics such as number of items sold and average shipping costs.

3) Marketplace Research Pro ($24.99 per month) - With this option get 90 days of historical completed listings data, multiple charts, metrics and search options, and the ability to research items internationally.

We encourage you to use this tool in order to make more informed buying and selling decisions. You can learn more about eBay Marketplace Research at http://pages.ebay.com/marketplace_research/

Thank you for selling on eBay. We look forward to helping you meet your sales objectives.

Well that figures! NOW we will get lots of watchers on the items we list no buyers and the watchers can keep watched items in their list for long time. I predict that the watchers will grow very fast once they decide to hide closed listings from search. Darn I think they should do away with watch thing too ...

Here is a drawing wife did back when they did the fee hike I may have to have it put on a tee shirt after all.

Edited to add---NO one picked up on misspelled word Succes. LOL we thought about putting Suck-cess but thought better of it.

Tool ... Marketplace Research has been around for a while now. I think Ebay developed it to give Terapeak a run for their money. However, I have tried both and Terapeak is the far better program. If I'm not mistaken, Marketplace only goes back 30 days and Terapeak goes back 60 or 90 days.

The monkey with "I married my wife for her looks, but not the ones she's been giving me lately" - still makes me chuckle...

I got a phone call and then the email about this. I'm a power seller but it was on my other ID which is not a power seller.
Maybe this will be good - maybe sellers will list their item at a fair price instead of seeing what someone else sold it for last month!!

I would research it before you jump in and subscribe to it. It may not fit your type of selling. Some small sellers might not benefit from using it and others might.

What is Terapeak and how do I get it?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I thought Terapeak was an affiliate of eBay.
I have never use any of these services. Honestly in over seven years of selling.
I never waste my time searching others sellers prices.
I never check "listing numbers" or worry about the "search" on eBay.
I am surprised how much time folks spend researching-
"numbers assigned to listings"
"search ups and downs"
"other folks sales and prices"
I just do not have the time but if it works for others, I guess it is worth their time.
Maybe that is why I am not rich.
But I do all right - been a powerseller since it all started.
I do not sell anything that is unique.
I know my investment,know what I will sell it for.
That is the summation of the information I use.
I spend more in listing fees than in inventory so any research I can do before I list to see if there are a slug of sellers selling the same item at a ridiculous price saves me time and money. Ideally, I would research before I buy but I often get postcards in lots, assuming I'll list only half of them. I rarely check out ended listings- I do it when I see a competitor with a different selling model to see how they're doing.
The only thing eBay offers me is a venue where buyers can find my merchandise through the search engine, and I pay high rent for the priviledge. When my items can't be found or are buried because of the numbering schema, you can bet that I'll research how to make my items more visible.
Hi Lady ... Looks like Paloma answered your question. I subscribe off and on to Terapeak. I like the ability to be able to research a particular seller back 90 days. Many times I'll remember seeing that she sold something that I have in stock and am ready to list. By being able to search it, I can see how she listed hers and go from there.
So that explains why I get as many as 8 or more watchers on unique one of a kind items and no bidders. The biggest trouble is that small sellers of collectable items are not going to subscribe to Ebays research so what does ebay want them to do - start everything at $9.99 and hope? I look at it as just another way to bring in more revenue in an attempt to bolster their falling stock price.
eBay's database is a valuable asset. If it is useful enough that people will pay to access it, it is only good business sense to charge for this. Nothing evil or stupid about it.
In the very broad sense of this statement, you are correct. However we are talking about eBay, a company that needs to find even more ways to raise fees and this is clearly one of their more creative ways to do it.
It still sucks they MIGHT want us to pay for search. Next thing you know they will charge us for our listings to go into search results. That will be the day I quit feebay all together.. LOL
I can't seem to get back into the groove lately, this is first year I didn't hussel at Christmas time and I think I just got plain lazy. I need a kick in the behind I think.
Pix I put it back on don't know what it will all look like together. Will see
I've been using it a while and find it useful. Having said that, if I weren't selling on consignment, I don't think that I'd use it. I use it to determine what something is likely to sell for (so that I can show the consignors and/or decide to give an item back to the owner if it's unlikely to sell well).
Given how buggy it is, I wouldn't use it for anything more demanding.
Irked, I wish I could pay for my listings to show up in search results. I thought that is what I'm paying FeeBay for, but their delivery is haphazard, at best.
