bid on and "won" this coffee maker. ok so the auction says it's used....I can live with that.

what I can't live with is that it arrived poorly packed and broken and on top of THAT...it doesn't work. It was packed with plastic bags surrounding it. That's it. Plastic bags. The box was sure big enough...it was a microwave box.

I'm with Jack. Enough sellers like this give Ebay a bad name and would keep any sane person from ever buying from Ebay again.

Hey - I've even bought from bargainland liquidations. The same item only it was described as having a broken piece of plastic on the back but that part wasn't shown in a picture. It arrived and it did have piece broken off but it was about the size of a small fingernail and it in no way impacted how it worked. I think I paid about the same price for it.

I've emailed the seller, filed the PayPal dispute, called FedEx etc etc. I'm just disgusted that anyone would sell something like this on Ebay. If anyone else would have bought this in this condition I guarantee you they would have never bought anything else on Ebay.

Hi glassgrl :-

Looking at their feedback, it seems they are generally doing a good job, with that high f/b level, 99% isn't too bad.

Unfortunately for the other 1% which now includes you, it seems that sometimes their packaging stinks, and that they have almost zero customer service when it comes to problems, not answering e-mails, not accepting returns, etc.

I guess they figure a few negs won't impact them at all, and so just don't care.

Sorry to see it happened to you, you're right, some sellers leave an awful lot to be desired when something crappy happens with one of their products.

Good luck, but looking at their other negs, you might be biting the bullet on this one.

The problem with a lot of sellers like this one is their feedback probably does not show the truth. Most buyers are afraid to leave bad feedback because they do no want it back. So a lot of people put up with it or just never buy on eBay again.

Based on some of the things I have received from sellers with excellent feedback that were VERY poorly described or packed, I can only conclude that the sellers have cajoled other unfortunate buyers into not giving them feedback.

look at all of his negs and neutrals via toolhaus. At a quick glance, it looks like most of them are from poor packaging, no communications and just poor customer service.

This seller looks like they have alot of positives because they sell a volume on a daily basis but the negs and neutrals speak for themselves. It has been my experience that when dealing with a high volume seller with alot of bad feedback, which this guy has, you take your chances when you decide to purchase from them

I've seen sellers with the same high number feedback with alot more postives than this seller.

I'd be more interested in learning what they do to try to resolve your problem, glassgrl.

All companies make mistakes, and companies that are driven to do high volume on eBay selling returned merchandise probably make more mistakes than average.

I don't think feedback is in any way a predictor of performance. Glassgrl's good experience with bargainland-liquidation is a good example.

I think feedback trends are an early warning system. Take it seriously and do business or not. Sort of a caveat emptor

I buy library vols off eBay. When I see people complaining that pages were missing, items were misrepresented or shipping was sloppy I don't buy from those dealers.

Looks like glass has filed the Paypal, emailed seller, etc. Keep us posted and good luck.

Take it seriously

Why?

Why would anyone take the insane ravings of a couple dozen fruitbats seriously?

And you know those people are out there and they always leave negative feedback.

So what's the point?

If I get negative feedback because the buyer's local post office made her pay additional postage to pick up the parcel, how is that indicative of the way *I* do business? Of *course* she's going to say I didn't put enough stamps on it, because as we all know, the Postal Service never makes mistakes, particularly when it comes to the "new" rates for eDC.

If some loon whose whole worthless family is well-known to the local constabulary leaves me 37 negative feedbacks because I have the temerity to follow through on $500 worth of bounced checks from her, what kind of valuable information does that provide future buyers?

This is my last entry on the topic. I'm not gonna argue this with you. You're wrong. Feedback should never be taken seriously.

Okay, I lied.

In one of those weird coincidences, looking through some stuff I found yet another reason why feedback should not be taken seriously.

Three recent negs:

Seventeen dollars paid for books and they were never received. E-mails ignored.

Received wrong item. No explanation. Filed paypal claim.

pd for item 11/20 w/ pay pal; item NOT received, i've left many mess., no resp.

As it turns out, the seller is someone I know. I'm sure Monica had every intention of filling these orders...right up until she passed away on November 21.

She'd known for the last year she was dying. She wanted to learn how to sell on eBay, and I taught her, at least as much as I could in the time I could spare.

She asked many questions, because she had a burning curiosity and a LOT of free time, being basically housebound between 5-day sojourns in the hospital. I wasn't the first seller she latched onto but I might have been the last, and she wanted to know EVERYTHING, not just where the jewelry comes from, but what was my day like and stories about my customers. A few of my ladies really get into the gossipy aspect ( "Did you see how so-and-so got outbid at the last minute?" ) and she was one of those, too.

Just before the end, her feedback record was perfect. And that's the way it should be, because she was conscientious as a seller. No one can ship from beyond the grave, nor should anyone expect that their $6 purchase is going to be paramount on the minds of a grieving family.

Actually Fluffy, your example is a perfect one in which responding to the feedback by NOT doing business would save time and money; unless she is shipping from the great beyond. And you indicate that that is not the case.

PS to Tom: Thanks for the laugh!

Fluffy,

I remember a year ago or so, you wrote about your ambivalence regarding this situation. I see now that, even if it was "just" gossip, you made that woman's end of life a bit better than it would have been. A tip of the hat to you.

Hwahwa, STFU.
