We had one installed on our cold water line a few years ago by a plumber when our local water system was having a lot of breaks to the old pipes and we were getting mud out of the tap! My memory was that it cost more than $32 and we have to replace the filters every few months but when you see the sludge that builds up the bottom of the filter housing it seems well worth it.

I have dark hair and still see no residue you must have awfully nasty water if you are getting residue after a bath, are you sure you are rinsing off the soap? LOL Most I see is soap scum on the tub and shower, never has the water left a residue. LOL only after major long periods does it show up on the cat bowl.

Jack is correct. If you could see what was in your water , you would not drink water again. so called clean water is terribly dirty in most cases.
