It was 32 BELOW zero at my house at 4 AM . Have to get up on nights like this to check and make sure the water lines haven't frozen. At 8 AM it was 14 below. BIG BURR!

Moi either...after the snow/sleet of a week or so ago, predictions are now for a "winter mix" (ie: snow/sleet)...I'm TIRED of all this...and will never NEVER again complain of "unseasonably warm weather" in November...

After 3 or 4 days of 30's and 40's it is warming up today to the 70's. Rain coming in and then cold again after the weekend.
I am just south of Tom and Ralphie.

Yep Bonnie - I live in the Mpls area and it's going to be COLD this weekend and into next week. I don't think actual temp will get as low as -34 though windchill is supposed to be -60 or so.

We get to move our youngest back into her dorm on Saturday (she spent the first part of the school year studying in Asia). I am thinking I will carry one load in and then stay in her room to "help put things away".

I'm up for a trip to the tropics! (but think I will have to settle for a trip to Oregon to visit Pixiamom and my mother)

Stay warm everybody!

You know who I feel for, animals. Nature can be so cruel & some people too who keep their pets outside with very little protection from the bitter cold.

I once stole someones dog. I was in bed listening to the 11:00 news when they said it was going down to 8 degrees. Got up, got dressed & drove over & stole her. Chained to her dog house, no blankets, no nothing & two pieces of dried dog food in her dish. Her name is Molly & I've had her for ten years.

This family got another dog, a poodle, & kept this one in the house. Good think they did because I would have taken her too.

Good for you McJane. My Lucky dog is one I found at the park. She'd been hit by a car and was in terrible shape. I took her to the vet, spent a fortune on attending to her injuries and a few weeks later had her spade. The vet said she had, had so many puppies her uterus was bigger than the rottwielder he did afterwards.
Even tho I saw signs about a lost dog, I would not phone and see if it was her. (the pics sure looked like her.) She's a wonderful dog and part beagle/jack russell. She is under my desk sleeping at this very moment.

That is a super view. I'll stay in Texas but would not be insusceptible to a vacation somewhere near a warm beach.

niel, how heartbreaking to find an injured animal alone & frightened, but what a happy ending for Lucky. It was meant to be for you to have her. I'm glad you made that decision not to call, probably not too easy, but still the best thing. Some people will not spend money to save a pet & his owners might not have so why chance it. Me, I'd mortgage my house if I had to, bet you would too.

I once pulled over to the side of the road to pick up a dead kitten to prevent cars from running over & over the poor little thing, except he wasn't dead. I rushed him to the vet hospital & they called me the next morning to come & get him. I thought he had died, they said no, in fact he was on the desk playing with papers & scattering them all over. He was fine, probably was just knocked out by whatever hit him.

I can't tell you how much I love that cat.
He had such an outstanding personality everyone I knew wanted him. His name is Skids.

Mamachia: We are in the mountains above Palm Springs. 6,000 elevation at our house, the tallest mountain is near 11,000 (San Jacinto Mtn.). We have snow, four seasons, streams, deer, bobcats, pine trees, large lots, you know the drill. Paradise on earth, we say. But the snow gets old REALLY fast. The first snowfall of the year is lovely, but after that it's sort of a nuisance although still pretty. We sometimes can picnic outdoors in January, other times we get several inches of snow in January. It's quite variable. Three seasons of the year are gorgeous and warm enough; summers are on the cool side, which is great, etc. Don't get me started. . . .

Yikes, I just walked by the kitchen window and glanced out and thought man is it light outside. Low and behold we just got and are still getting snow already about 4 inches of it. It must have snowed big time since I last looked out about midnight. Went out and took some night shots of it when I load them to my Pc I will post one. We definately don't get snow often so I am ready for that vacation now, Tom Ralphie move over--LOL

I just woke up to the news about the tornadoes and the devastation. Picked up tractor trailers and threw them around on I-4. Lucky dog jumped on my bed last night and started shaking like crazy. I couldn't calm her down and finally put her in the living room and closed the door. She knew there was bad weather out there and didn't listen. It hit just south of us.

It sounds like Lucky just might be lucky. Glad it missed you. Funny how dogs pick up on things like that if we would just notice their demeanor.

The day has dawned bright and sunny and COLD!!

That's only half the story - here's the windchill warning. Good news is that we should have a "warming" (ie: above zero) on Tues.
