Okay, without siging in I clicked on my home page which brings up my auction listings. I see bidder 1. I click on the auction, and then bidder history and voila! There is the list of the bidders ID's. So what is this "private" stuff all about? What am I not seeing here? What is the sense of using bidder 1 etc?

I believe you, as the seller, are the only one to see the real information on those bidders. I could be wrong. . . .

I am not logged in when I see the bidders ID's on a specific auction page. I simply look at a specific auction page and the high bidders ID shows there. Then I look at the area marked "history", then click on the number of bids and there appears the ID's of those that are bidding on my item. No email address, just ID's. But, if the bidder 1 system is intended to conceal the identity of bidders it isn't doing the job. All is working okay, I just don't understand the purpose of this new system.

eBay does not ask me to sign in every time I start up. I have My eBay set as my home page and only from time to time does it ask for the password. My computer must be set to keep me signed on for a period of time. Perhaps your is as well and you are signed on when you see the IDs.
Edited to say: I forgot about the $200 limit.
