I sincerely hope that Sparkz is on some round-the-world cruise to sunny climes, out of touch with civilization--instead of being laid up somewhere or worse. It's been months since he's posted here. Anyone know anything?

Hi Roadsmith,

I was wondering the same thing as you, the last time I read a post from him was when his grandchild was born and since then I never saw him post anymore.

I really miss Sparkz, too. I am worried about him. I miss other ex-Vendio posters; i.e., Mikes4x4 but I know they have moved on to other venues and are O.K.

All I know about Sparkz, really, is that he lives somewhere north of the LA area--central valley or such. He sent me an ultraviolet pen once but I didn't save his real name and address. Wish I had.

After some searching, I found this email address -

[email protected].

Someone who knows him well should send him an email.

You think you "know" someone (to the extent that you're actually worrying about them), but the fact of the matter is that you've never met him, you don't know his name, his phone number, his eBay ID, a valid email address or even what town he lives in.

Adele, this is the third thread you've started in quest of Sparkz. I'm not your biggest fan, but I know more about you than you know about him, and it seems obvious you considered him -- whoever he was -- to be a friend.

Don't you think that's odd? Don't you think that if Sparkz valued his Vendio contacts he would have been more forthcoming with personal information?

Fluffy, I see your point. But, let's see, what can I or anyone here in the EO know about Sparkz? I personally know that he was kind enough to buy something for me that I couldn't get in our little mountain town, and send it, and refuse payment, asking instead that I make a donation to an animal shelter. I know that he was very helpful to many of us here with our questions, and kind, too. Sure, he never shared his personal information with me or anyone else here, I believe, but that's okay. He never put us down when we were asking what we knew would sound like a dumb question.

Here at the EO, we know lots about each other just from how they treat other people. That's always been enough.

This thread is the last I'm going to post about Sparkz and his whereabouts.

Heck, when you yourself have been away from the EO for any length of time, people have even asked about you. Perfectly legit.

Very true.

I wonder if your daughter knows you make harsh comments about her to perfect strangers. I hope not. I'd be pretty hurt if I knew my mom was doing that.

she has gone through life with a chip on her shoulder, unable to give praise or, really, to empathize. I've thought sometimes that she is a bit narcissistic and unable to put herself in others' shoes.

Roadsmith, thanks for bumping this up. Sparkx whereabouts has been nagging on many of our minds. If something has happened to him, I would like his family to know the affect he had on our cyber lives

Fluffy, it's really none of your business if some of us care about Sparkz. And your finding that quote about one of my daughters and including it here is out of line.

I'm usually more of a "lurker" here than a poster but many of you folks seem like really great people and while I don't know any of you personally, I still am fond of many of you and I do care. I've learned a lot from you.

Sparkz was living in Visalia, CA when he was actively posting here. It is south of Fresno. I'm a couple of hours north in Turlock. I have wondered about him too and hope he is well.

I prefer to think there is basic goodness in most people. I feel sorry for some of the cynics who post here. Of course, it takes all kinds and it is not mine to judge. I just sort of shake my head at those who have a need to be right all the time and so hopelessly superior.

Thank God we can each be who we are regardless of what others may think.

Why would anyone want to take the time and trouble to dig up an old email, just to hurt and dig at another person's feelings?

'hopelessly superior'
Vendio would not let me add "hopelessly superior' as my signature.

Some folks prefer to live their lives emotionally distant from others - whether it is local or online, perhaps a 'safer' course, less chance of getting wounded. Others prefer to connect with people, empathize with them in times of joy or sorrow, caring and sharing - missing others when absent. To each his own...

Fenix03 did not post an email address on Vendio. I found many of her old posts, however, no email address.

And, for what it's worth, of all the posts on this topic, only fluff and I have our email addresses available for contact off the board.

I enjoyed the posts of Sparkz and Fenix03. They did contribute to the topics on this board. Perhaps they moved on as Mike 4X4 did.

Sometimes I think those who are afraid to connect have been badly hurt in the past and just don't know how to trust.

Sad news I'm afraid.

I found Sparkz's address from a black light pen set he kindly sent me a year or so ago. I wrote him a note last week. Today I got this email from his daughter. She asked that I pass it on to everyone at Vendio.

If you want Marie's email address to write her a note please email me at [email protected]

Amy,
Hi. My name is Marie Cowan, I am Rick Cowan's daughter. We received your card today, and my mother and I wanted to thank you very much for thinking of him. I am sorry to have to tell you, but my father was diagnosed October 3rd with kidney cancer, and he died December 6th. Again, I'm very sorry to have to tell you this way. I take comfort in the fact that he was able to get to know his granddaughter, who was born at the end of July, and I know he found much joy in watching her grow as well. My father fought the good fight, and had an amazingly positive attitude right up until the end, which has helped us all tremendously.
If you would like to let those on vendio who were wondering about him know what happened, my mother and I would appreciate it. His old e-mail address was cancelled by aol, and this is now our only e-mail address. Again, thank you so much for thinking of him. It means a lot to me. I hope to hear back for you.

Marie

Very sad news. I'm glad he didn't waste any time posting here after his diagnosis and spent his precious last days with loved ones instead.

How sad, how very, very sad...

Rick and I used to joke around a lot about my cousin. The cousin, who has walnut ranches in Visalia, invented a machine to shake the nuts off the trees.

The dust he stirred up gave Sparkz a LOT of trouble! Made him sneeze...

I'll miss his hurricane/tornado updates.

Lucy
