Hi Guys, Can't find any information on this question through PayPal or eBay... I had an auction end tonight and the item total bid was $2,410.00. I accept PayPal but it seems I have read somewhere that there is some dollar limit for eBay purchases. I'm a bit worried because I have heard so many horror stories of PayPal deals gone bad because bidder was unhappy. And of course I don't look forward to paying an additional PayPal fee. I'm especially nervous because this same item sold last week for $148.00 and my high bidder was from Spain and I only ship within USA, so I relisted this item. I was shocked at the winning bid amount tonight.
What would be the best and safest form of payment for this dollar amount and what is the best way to ship and insure it? I remember there was a good insurance company some of us used to use a few years back for high-ticket items, but can't remember the name of it - was it DSI maybe? If I ship insured USPS it's going to be about $38 just for insurance.
Thanks for any advice on this one.

US postal money order max is 975,you can ask him to buy you a few!

I would ask for a wire transfer - I had a friend get one at Winn Dixie and cash it right there for over $3000 - from Spain as well.
Other than that a cashier check or money order will work - cash first then ship. No way would I take paypal for that amount and ship to Spain

Firstly, congratulations!
"What would be the best and safest form of payment for this dollar amount?"
What does it say in your listing about acceptable forms of payment? You can't change these things after the fact.
Do you know that you can set your preferences to block bids from people registered in other countries?

If you have a high, positive feedback rating, I would ask for a wire transfer. Otherwise, your buyer may want the protection of PayPal or credit card. I have agreed to send a wire transfer only once - for a Volvo from a highly rated seller. If their experience and feedback were not so high - I would never have gone for it. It went smooth as silk...

There is a restruction of personal accounts and if you make over a certain amount in a time period they require you to sign up for Merchant or business account at Paypal maybe that is what you are thinking of. But don't know of any restriction on how much you can recieve just that you would have to sign up for business account I think??
Anyway INSURE! Send Global express or what ever for better tracking sort of yeah right!
If you have a personal account that may be your ticket out of accepting Paypal since they will probably require you to sign up for the business one or upgrade as they call it.

Yes, I think that over a certain amount you have to have a business account. A word, though, send this with insurance and adult signature required. I have been burned on a couple of really big sales. That is great BTW...you have to love surprises like that.

Merchant account. Only way to go.
Be sure to send it with signature confirmation. From what I am reading, this winner is NOT from Spain. Only the one that you cancelled, so you shouldn't have to do 90% of what the others stated.

Stonecold - My PayPal Account is a Verified Premier Account. Do I have better protection with that type of account?
And you are correct, this buyer is NOT from Spain but lives within the USA.

Stone is suggesting a conventional credit card merchant account. Do you have better protection with that? Not really. A charge back is a charge back.
Is the buyer not paying for the insurance on this? If he is, add the $38 and go on your merry way. If he isn't, and you got another $2300 or whatever for this widget by relisting it, I think I would simply absorb that and congratulate myself on a windfall.
Anything sending up bad vibes about this transaction? Bidder FB OK etc. etc.? Are YOU comfortable that what you listed and described is exactly what it is?

PIXIAMOM - The person who bid on my $2,410 auction is actually one of your past buyers according to their feedback! Small world huh? You left good feedback so apparently the deal worked out well for you - although the winning price on a postcard was much less.
