Probably is a spoof, but check your "my ebay" to make sure your account has not been hijacked.

Your account has been hijacked. My husband watches generator auctions nightly. A whole bunch of them are shut down a few hours after they're listed. Poof! Gone.

You have not been hijacked. I am receiving the same stupid spoofs.
I should have known better than to list during a listing special! I am receiving these emails on an account that I rarely use.
Listed some auctions in the computer and cell phones categories and the spammers swarmed my mailbox. As well as the Generator spoof, the following spam came in through eBay ASQ 6 times on the computer listings.

If the auction's been removed, it won't appear in My eBay.
Hopefully you would get some kind of notification from eBay, though.

not anymore - ebay uses "tokens" to let Vendio access our accounts.

It's probably time that you changed your password any way then LOL... you might want to make sure the generator listing fee doesn't appear on your bill while you're at it.

eBay ALWAYS says it's a spoof. The last time I got an odd email, they said it was a spoof. I checked the originating ISP, and it was an authentic eBay domain ... and whatever they were experimenting with (a relisted item notification) only showed up once or twice and haven't had one since.
Would one actually get a listing email from eBay in the case of a highjack, or would the highjacker change that email as well? Curious about that.

There is no such thing as authentic Ebay domain.
If you account has been hijacked, and the hijacker listed an item, you will get an email from EBay saying your listing has started, and you can look into your seller account and find Ebay has charged you a listing fee.

Lets all stop whining !

Doing a search for the IP number in the header of any email will tell you who owns/adcministers the number. In the case I mentioned above, it was an eBay owned number.

We get those same kind of emails on almost an hourly rate here. I just make sure MY EBAY page and our fees page match. At least once a week. We have only been highjacked once in past 10 years and that was because the new kid didn't know not to answer those emails.

It's a spoof!! They haven't used generators in years. They are all Alternators now.

Hey Stone, Alternators are on cars. A $1,459.00 Generator is for 110 and 220 volts.

Hey: Toolhound!
Stone is correct.
The alternator gets its name from the fact that it generates alternating current (AC). The old generators generated direct current (DC). Well the battery can't use alternating current so the alternator output is fed into what are called diodes, which convert the AC into DC. The alternator has a unique feature in that it is able to generate a relatively high voltage while the engine is at idle. The old generators needed to be running at a fast pace before they got up to 13 or 14 volts

I live in Florida Dad & Stone believe me we use Generators to run our houses when we have no electricity. NOT ALTERNATORS. Alternators are what is on your car.

These are the kind of generator's we use up here. Description does say AC power.
Could it be a regional language thing...calling a generator an alternator? Kind of like couch and davenport?

NO SMART GUY I DON'T HAVE THE "first house ever to run on DC current!"
Generators put out both AC & DC. Do a simple search on eBay for a home generator then try your home alternator.
Read about them when you do and you might learn something.

Generators put out both AC & DC
Wrong. Generators are only capable of putting out DC current. And now where in the amounts you were describing. Just in the way you are describing them, it is clear you have no idea on how either works. It's best you leave it alone.

Both generators and alternators put out ac current. They rely on rectifier circuitry to convert ac to dc.
In the case of an automotive alternator it's done with a diode pack.
In the case of a home generator, the current remains ac, as all your home appliances are meant to run on ac. Home generators may be equipt with a dc output thru a rectifier and transformer for less than 120 volt power.

Nobody is more ignorant of mechanical crap than I am, but my boss in 1980 calmly explained to me that what is usually referred to as a home generator is more accurately called a Gen-set (engine-generator set) because they have generators with attached engines which produce AC current. Of course, he advertised them as home generators - the name consumers knew.
