Went out with a friend and had a great morning.
Bought 3 sets of china - one Franciscan Desert Rose with serving pieces for 25.00. She said it was her grandmothers. Haven't had time to check it all yet.
The other 2 sets were by Haviland and the best yet - a Mah Jong set with bakelite and bond with bamboo tiles. Also 4 small Lenox geese or ducks or whatever. Just had to brag a big. Hope you all had a great morning too.

Those are great finds.

I haven't done the garage sale thing in years. You have made me want to go looking again.

Lots of sales and 80 here in New Port Richey,fl also. I was at a sale last year and saw a small blacksmith tool for $250.00 and did not buy it. Later I checked on eBay and found they sell for over $500.00

Well today I went to a sale and there it was marked down from $250.00 to $50.00 I didn't pass it up this time. They are bringing less on eBay now but still around $350.00

Mrs Irked went to an estate sell on Thursday and got some jewelry she liked and thought they might be good pieces, well she took them to a jeweler and found she made out like a bandit with her $4.00 purchase, she got in the lot -- gold 14K chains 2 of them, and a 10 K white gold chain & butterfly pendant with fair size diamond and a solitaire diamond drop pendant another fair sized one, 2 loose stones one a diamond and 2 sapphires, One earring with diamond could not find the match to it, and a very old 10K gold baby ring. All in Like new condition. All this and other cute costume jewelry all for $4.00. She was estatic and has the diamonds on already, except for the loose one and is already making plans for it. LOL

All I ever see at garage sales are old clothes - mostly kids and broken childrens toys - the kind you would buy at Walmart, flower pots and plastic bowls and ofcourse beanie babies. I don't even bother to stop anymore. Gas here is about $3.25 a gallon for regular and I myself consider garage sales a waste of time. Estate sales are professionally conducted and the prices are higher than one could ever get on Ebay

forgot to add - the first yard sale we went to this morning had the great big "This sells on Ebay for....." sign.

Of course this was on one of those "collectible" plates.

I just laughed and walked away and DH just had to ask "what are you laughing about?"

In our area, yard or garage sales are usually filled with junk. We've developed a philosophy that those types of sales are filled with things people really don't want, thus when we drive by, one of us with proclaim: "Crap For Sale..." or if we have someone with us, it's just the acronym "CFS" or if we've passed many of them and the traffic around them is an annoyance, it changes to: "SFS" -- you can probably figure that one out.

We tend to stick to the estate auction circuit with about 5-6 to choose from within less than 40 minutes away. Following the feeling about yard sales, estate auctions are usually filled with items that people treasured until they died. Now, there's plenty of crap in them, too, and some auctioneers box them up and put them into rows - selling choice to the highest bidder. We call them "BOC's" -- and you should be able to figure that out as well based on the above descriptions.

Now, we do hold at least 2 yard sales of our own during the year - usually filled with items that would not sell in our eBay auctions, or in our eBay store. People who have become regulars often comment about how nice our items are compared to other yard sales they attend.

The best thing I got yesterday at garage sales was "getting out to the house and off the computer"
Neil - I'm in Jacksonville so I had the same weather that you did. Can't hardly stay inside today either.
I did find a mint condition Intime Nightgown Set for $15 - should get at least $150 to $200 on ebay. A Sony Mavica FD83 for $15 which I will keep.

good finds, lady. We did better out in the booneys (boonies) whatever than in town. These out of the way properties are old and new as development wipes out homes that have been there forever. I also got a few pieces of Mariage Satsuma that I am researching. One is a huge teapot with a dragon on it. Perfect cond from what I can see and a tray to go with it. The vase was broken.

OK...I want to move to Florida to go yard saling!

All we see are kids toys, kids clothes and junk. I think a lot of the young folks are having sales to help them pay their huge mortgage payments on their expensive homes here!

We didn't go to one sale last year but decided we will try again this summer. We do better at auction sales and have found neat treasures in scrappy looking box lots.

Here's a little story that will give you your chuckle for the day.

Last year we went to a Church sale in their basement and I scrounged around and found some knitting wool and some other items that I wanted for myself. Nothing was priced.
If this had been a Garage sale I would have offered $2.00 for the lot.

I reached their official 'LADY ON THE MONEY DESK'. She was a sweet looking little old lady with gray hair and I said 'None of the prices are on these...how much is this lot'?
I am only 5'2" and she was smaller than me and she took my arm and leaned into me with a sweet smile and said " How much would you like to donate, dear?". I said 'Ummm...$5.00' and she gave me a funny look so I said "$6.00?"...She smiled and said 'Bless you dear' and held out her hand.

Moral of the story...next time any of you hold your own Garage Sale, hire a sweet little old grey haired lady to collect the money.

Otteropp, I have a friend in Victoria and she rarely finds anything good at g. sales. Mostly junque. She visited me here and was amazed but couldn't take much home because of the duty.

Neil you think like we do. We head for the country as often as we can for our garage sale fix. That's where we find the good stuff. We run into too many dealers around our San Marco neighborhood.

Garage sales...yeah...right...In my dreams...

Yesterday it snowed and this morning we had ice fog. It got up to about 20 degrees today.

I am so ready for all this ice and snow to melt. It's been an extremely long winter. I haven't seen the ground since the 3rd week of October....
