Can anyone tell me the company/maker of this planter? It dates from the 1950's. I've searched "Danmark", "Denmark" and "Scandnavian Art Pottery" but couldn't find a similar mark. Thanks for any help.

The beehive icon is going to identify the company; I believe Denmark is there only to show that it was made in that country. Could be wrong!

You're 100% correct, glasgirl...I must need a new perscription...my eyes aren't THAT old! But I do think that the Danes spell their country "Danmark" so was trying to cover all bases. Hopefully someone will recognize the mark...it looks familiar to me but I can't place it...maybe my brain is getting as decrepit as my eyeballs!

Interesting piece of pottery and thank you for the link, Ms. Lucy.
I keep a Favourites Folder of Pottery & China sites so I have added this one.
Is it a planter? How tall is it?

I'm going to add this site to my list too. This appears to be a planter but it doesn't have a hole in the bottom for draining...it does have a separate dish that it sits in. It's a little over 3 inches tall. My mom got this in Germany in the early 1950's...our Air Force family was stationed there. Now that I know who made it and when, I'll be listing it...Thanks again Lucy!

Aha...the reason I asked the size of it is because to me it looks like a 1950's Cigarette Holder and matching ashtray that we used to put on the Dinner Table at the Coffee and Dessert stage when Company came. Usually each person had their own individual ashtray beside their plate...JUST IMAGINE that today!
My hubby has been collecting the sets for a few years now after he saw a Royal Copenhagen one that was given to me by a lady who knew I loved old china. Our house is now overrun with them and he has branched out into Cigarette Boxes as well.

You know a cigarette holder and ashtray may just be right, the top piece looks sort of oblong, if you have a smoker have them drop a pack into it and see if they fit (or they may have been for unwrapped ciggys).

The cigarettes were supplied by the host/hostess and were unwrapped and the holder passed around the table. If the plate underneath does not have little indentations for the ciggys to rest on then it is used just as you show it as an underplate for the holder.
It is my DH Birthday tomorrow and I found yet another set in an Antique shop marked 'Toothpick Holder'. Don't know why I bought it as I am the one who has to dust his collection!

I see many cigarette holders and match holders mislabeled toothpick holders. Since smoking isn't considered as sexy as it once was, some sellers consider picking your teeth more genteel.

If you can identify the designer it should sell for more. I believe it may be Nils Thorsson. He had a thing for fish.
Do you ship outside the US? Most Aluminia collectors are in Scandanavia and if you don't ship outside the US, they will probably write many polite and pleasant emails asking you to make an exception.
Good luck!

Thanks, all...I'm pretty sure this is a planter with an underplate as the plate doesn't have the typical ciggie indentations. I re-checked the site Lucy gave to look at Thorsson's signature...couldn't find it anywhere on these pieces but it does have an obvious fish design. I do ship internationally and will gladly welcome any Danish (or other Scandanavian) customers...Thanks!
