Can anyone recommend a gold tester? I would like to be able to tell if something is solid gold without cutting into the jewelry and ruining its looks. I don't mind paying a good price for one, but it really needs to work. I bought one quite a long time ago and it was a joke. Fortunately, they allowed me to return it. Someone has a used Mizar M24 listed and says it works great. I have a feeling it isn't reliable or they wouldn't be selling it. Any comments that would steer me in the right direction? Thank you!!

Think you can buy an acid testing kit locally if you live in a large enough town. Comes with a stone on which you just rub the article in question and little bottles of acid for 14k and 18k. You can also buy a bottle for 10k. Just ask any pawnshop where they get their testing kits.

I think you can buy one right on ebay too. If not let me know I'll start selling them on ebay.
There is also silver testing acid for testing sterling.

I bought my acid/stone test kit on eBay, Its been a life saver. Very easy to use and understand. Cheap I think I paid around 10.00 with shipping and it has lasted 2 years with plenty left for another year or so.It does show where you rub the piece on the stone but not bad at all. Just a small spot of gold or silver on stone is all you need.
