Recently i double listed an auction. I discovered it 12 hours after i launched. So i cancelled the auction and asked for a credit for the auctioni cancelled.

This is the reply i got back from ebay.

Dear Frank,

Thank you for writing to eBay regarding your request for credit on your
recently ended listing.

According to my information, recently you were granted such a request as
a one-time courtesy. At that time, the representative explained to you
that listing fees are charged when the item is listed. These fees are
for the space the item takes up on the databases and any optional
features you used. Unfortunately, we're unable to refund your Insertion
Fee, including any optional listing upgrade fees, even if you end the
listing early.

In the future, instead of ending your listing early when you
accidentally list a duplicate, you should consider revising the item,
making it a listing for another item that you do have available for
sale. Simply ending the listing early, regardless as to how short of a
time it may have been active on the site for, will not necessarily
result in a credit.

For more information about Insertion Fees, go to:

http://pages.ebay.com/help/sell/insertion-fee.html

Thank you again for writing to us and for giving me this opportunity to
assist you. Best of luck with your future transactions on eBay!

Sincerely,
Matthew M.

My heavy-handed mouse handling results in double-clicks that frequently schedule an auction twice. I scan my scheduled listings and delete the duplicates before launch. A few get by me. Ebay has never offered a refund and I frankly didn't even think to ask for one. I think he gave you good advise - editing the listing to sell another item in your inventory rather than ending the auction early. Thanks for posting, think I'll try that next time!

We are all human, and we all make mistakes. When we double list we dont expect to be double billed for it. Ebay used to always give a credit when this happened. I believe that they are just getting very hungry for money by now ripping us off where ever they can.

over the last 9 years i have always been credited with my double listed auctions. Perhaps 6 a year. some less some more times.

thanks for comments everyone.

Hi Agate,

I happen to agree with you that ebay is low. I also happen to agree with the ebay loser. When I do that, I simply edit the item to a different one. I figure it is a lot less hassle, and who knows. I might actually sell IT on ebay.

In the brick-and-mortar world, a 9 year veteran will carry much more weight and consideration than a newbie. In eBay world, rules seem to be applied across the board. I sympathize with you but it is too much to hope for that eBay will compensate us for THEIR mistakes, let alone OUR mistakes!

I'm trying to think why eBay would suspect an early end to a double listing. Let's say you had two of those widgets to sell. You listed two auctions, sold one quickly off eBay, want to end the second listing plus get your listing fees. Ebay would consider that cheating them out of listing AND final value fees.

Just trying to think with a Larceny Cap on--what could happen to make eBay think you're cheating them.

Normally what i do is to cancel the auction and give them the auction no of the existing one. Our auctions are all uniquely different. Yes it is all opal, mainly rough and slices. but there are no 2 the same. I have to take a photo for every single auction that i launch. Sometimes up to 6 photos. All ebay have to do is to look at the photos and when i double list , they would see that they are the same auction photo material. it is not possible to mistake them and to see they are the same.

I always end the double up (second auction) That alone should be enough to tell them there was a mistake.

But it is too much to expect ebay to treat us with courtesy and value our business and all the thousands of dollars we put in their pockets every month.

Yeah i know i expect too much from ebay. IT IS A PITY THEY DONT HAVE REAL HUMANS WORKING THERE INSTEAD OF DRONES.

see, there is too much work already looking at every picture you took.
Someone may have murky, blurry pictures and start arguing they are not the same etc .
In brick and mortar world,a 9 years veteran come face to face with the venue provider, and he is there every day,his store is there and his merchandise is real, you can feel it,touch it and see it.
Same goes with the seller, you can see him, touch him and when you talk to him,he does talk back.
But in cyberland, you dont know how many ID does a seller have,is he a she/he or it??
does he have real merchandies or is he using stock photo?
Where is he?Is he really in USA as he claims to be,or is he in Swahili Land?
Ebay is getting to be too big, they should split up -staples such as clothes and shoes and electronic goods and tupperware should have their own auction away from collectibles, antiques.

Yeah i know i expect too much from ebay.

Please feel free to patronize one of eBay's competitors instead.

And don't let the screen door smack you in the toochis on the way out.

Or here's a thought: You could be more careful next time you list.

you should consider revising the item, making it a listing for another item that you do have available for sale.

This is interesting, though, considering that it used to be outlawed and perhaps still is.

I and other people like me used to put up dummy auctions on free listing days. Oh, relax. Real items. But I'd put up 9 or so auctions for the same style of bracelet, which is something I never do normally.

Then at my post-FLD leisure, I'd go back and revise them to be listings for other items.

eBay caught on and this practice was made verboten. Now it sounds like it's back on. Or not. Who can tell? Anyone got a Ouija board?

We can relist an item which received no bid and get a refund of the listing fee if the item sells the second time ,provided the relisted item is equal in value or less than the original item.
There is no way for Ebay to tell if the relisted item is the same as the original item.
I am not sure if Ebay really cares !
But I see Agate's point, say I usually spend no more than one dollar in listing an item and one day ,I have an item worth much more and my listing fee with reserves and picture pack and what not comes to 10-20 dollars, and I double listed,
So I cancel one of the listings, but I dont really have another item of equal value ??

I thought ebay did away with the relist credit a long time ago

"Relisting Your Item

If your listing ends without a winning buyer or results in an Unpaid Item (UPI), you may qualify for a credit by relisting the item. If the item sells the second time, eBay will refund the Insertion Fee for the relisting.

Note: If you originally listed the item during a promotion and your original Insertion Fee was lower than the Insertion Fee for your relisted item, you'll be credited for the lower of the two fees if your item sells the second time.

This offer applies to only the Insertion Fee and not other fees for options such as Bold, Highlight, etc. After your relisted item sells, you will be charged the applicable Final Value Fee.

To learn about relisting a local vehicle on eBay Motors, go to Selling a Vehicle Locally.
To relist an item:

1.

Sign in to eBay.
2.

Click the My eBay button at the top of the page.
3.

Click the "Unsold" link under the All Selling column if you are relisting an item that didn't sell.

If you are listing with Classified Ad, your Classified Ad listings will appear in the "Unsold" section.
4.

Click the "Sold" link if you are relisting an item because your buyer didn't complete the transaction.
5.

Choose “Relist” in the drop-down menu to the right of the item.

You can also access the “relist” link from the item page for the ended listing.

Note: You must use the official Relist feature in order to receive the Insertion Fee credit. Copying and pasting the content of the original listing into a new listing, for example, will not enable eBay to track that you are relisting the item and will prevent you from receiving the credit.

You never have to send a request to receive an Insertion Fee credit. eBay automatically issues the credit to your account as long as your listing meets the requirements below. Once your item sells, the credit is posted to your account.

General requirements for the credit

* You must relist the item within 90 days of the closing date of the original listing.

* Only the first relisting of an item is eligible. Subsequent relistings of the same item do not qualify.

* Both the original listing and the relisting must be in Online Auction, Fixed Price or Best Offer Only (eBay Motors) formats, not in the Store Inventory, or Classified Ad Real Estate listing formats.

* Both the original listing and the relisting must be single-quantity (not Multiple Item or "Dutch" auction).

* The starting price you set for the relisted item must not be greater than that of the original listing.

* The relisted item must not have a reserve price if the original listing didn't have one. If it did, the reserve price you set for the relisted item must not be greater than that of the original listing.

* The relisted item must end with a winning buyer. If the item doesn't sell the second time, the Insertion Fee is not refunded.

* Qualifying Unpaid Items that are relisted and close successfully will receive a standard relist credit automatically if the item is relisted and sells. Read more on the Unpaid Item Process.

If your original listing resulted in an Unpaid Item

Also make sure that you filed an Unpaid Item dispute for the original listing and requested a full Final Value Fee credit for that listing. This credit must be posted to your account before you can receive the Insertion Fee credit.

If your original listing had no bidders or buyers

If your item didn't sell the first time, you may want to come up with a different title, lower the starting price, or add a more detailed item description. Read our tips for selling relisted items."

fLufF. You have been told before to keep your sarcasm out of these topics. If you don't have anything constructive to say, then don't say anything.your not welcome and not wanted.

Or here's a thought:Please feel free to patronize one of vendio's competitors instead. And don't let the screen door smack you in the toochis on the way out.

It would seem that you have nothing better to do except critise every one else. you have been on vendio since about 2002 , and have left over 4,000. comments. Nothing better to do with your time. You are very caustic to a lot of people for no reason. You are the rudest person on vendio. I FEEL SORRY FOR YOU.

I'm not going anywhere . and i have been here 4 years longer then you. So please take my advice and go away. your not wanted with your sarcasm.

zippy2dah Thanks for the advice. i do know most of that. and as i said in an earlier post. we are all human and do make mistakes when listing and double list. I dont always have the time to go into an auction and change the photos, the wording, price, and what ever else has to be changed. When i have double listed and realized it i have corrected it immediately. It is a lot easier to delete the auction and start again. Thanks for your comments every one.

agate18,

FWIW, I happen to LIKE Fluff's sarcasm. I'm sure that it wasn't pleasant to be the target of it, but she didn't really lay into you excessively. She probably could have kept her thoughts to herself (I did ), but hey, this is a public forum for the exchange of opinions and facts, and she didn't pull an Imus on you.

As for her 4000 posts, I can't say that I've learned something from each one, but my hunch is that the percentage of her posts where I learn something are higher than anyone else's (4x4mike used to be pretty good too).

I don't mind a curmudgeon so much if they're smart too

If everything else were running smoothly on eBay, I guess I would get more excited about them not offering a "get out of jail free" card for an error you made. Right now, I'd be much more interested in seeing them fix some of THEIR errors (search, for starters).

About two months ago I made a listing mistake that cost me $5.00 in fees. I appealed to eBay. They told me to get stuffed.

Then I did NOT immediately proceed to Vendio, do not pass GO, do not collect $200, to whine about it and make silly statements like there are no real people at eBay, only drones.

You made a mistake. Live with it. The rest of us do it all the time. Can't see why you think you're special.

P.S. Oh, by the way, I'm a Vendio customer. I'm going to be around for a long, long time. As far as being subjected to my corrosive sarcasm and biting wit, if you will but take a moment to click on my name at the left, you can choose to Ignore all comments made by me. Kind of surprising that an old hand like you doesn't know that, but hey, whatever. No, no, don't thank me. I try to include a little nugget of information in each posting, much like rug weavers make a tiny mistake in each rug, since only God is capable of perfection.

SO TAKE YOUR OWN ADVICE. CLICK ON MY NAME AND DONT READ MY POSTS.I WILL BE AROUND VENDIO FOR A VERY LONG TIME TO COME. WHEN YOU GIVE CONSTRUCTIVE HELP I HAVE NO PROBLEM WITH THAT.
