Didn't I read something bad about shipping to APO addresses here? Can someone refresh my memory?

You can't get Delivery Confirmation when you ship to an APO or FPO address.

Of course, if you are the kind of thrill-seeking risk-taker who likes the wind in her hair and doesn't care if she gets PayPal chargebacks, go right ahead and ship.

Okay, from the skimming I just did on the internet, I could have two problems here. The first problem is I sold five very used lighters for a friend expecting them to go cheap, probably for parts. Well, they went to $41. I quoted a First Class shipping and insurance for $3.50. From what I gather from my internet search, it is unrealistic to send items First Class mail to APO addresses as it takes almost forever to get there. It would need to be shipped Priority. The USPS site shows that as costing $6.20. Insurance is another $1.65 and confirmation is 65 cents. That brings the cost up to $8.50. The USPS site also shows tobacco items as being prohibited. Do you think that includes lighters? His user ID has lighters in it so he must be buying these on a regular basis. Any suggestions out of this mess other than to tell me to stick my head in a cold bucket of water.

I shipped an item to a solider in Germany thru the APO system and it took 6 wks (a letter) for them to get it. It was a cheap item so not much of a loss, but you gotta have hope for the best when shipping thru this system.

If so,why bother to use DC?Also it should be free with priority mail.
If he has been bidding on Ebay ,he must know it takes longer to get his package,if you are not sure, just ask him.
Private insurer like U-PIC and DSI may be cheaper, check to see if they take on APO.

I live in Canada, and I have mailed about a dozen items to APO addresses. I explain that they take a long time, although most know that already. I have taken Paypal, even though I know it is not secure. However, I feel that service men and women stationed abroad are serving their country, (we lived in the US and our daughter and 2 DIL's were born there, and our son and family live there), and I feel that I am doing a small service by mailing to them. I should add that the items I sell are not high value, so it would not be a big loss. Some have taken a couple of months to arrive, but I have never had a complaint, and they have all arrived eventually.

I have shipped 100s of packages to APO addresses with not one problem. Must be a lot of lighter collectors because probably half of the items I have sent were lighters. APO addresses are the one thing that I do not mind going the little extra with.

I would probably ship in a flat rate envelope.

I think most people requesting APO shipping understand the additional delivery times.

As for shipping lighters you can check the USPS regs. Lighters that have never contained fuid are not a problem. Lighters with fluid residue are subject to seizure. Be sure to empty the contents of the lighter and air it out before shipping.

Shipping to an APO requires the military version of the 2976. Your post office should have the proper form. When listing contents besure to note the lighter is empty.
