I had a senior moment today - trying to remember if it was a state capitol or capital building. I checked my other listings and other eBayer's listings- definitely capitol prevailed. Curious, I tried to find the rule that distinguished the two on Google, Wikipedia, and answers.com. Now I'm more confused than ever. Does anyone have a simple rule of when to use capital vs capitol?

I REMEMBER THAT ONE!!! ... even in my older age LOL ...

the "building" that houses the State Government building is always the Capitol.

and you're supposed to remember that, because most of them have a dOme as the rooftop... the O in dome is what helps you remember.

Thanks, Marcia! I'll remember that until my next senior moment!
