Well I never saw this coming! I was feeling very pleased with a pick up in my store sales after a very slow few weeks. Got three packages ready, took a $134.86 USPS money order in hand, and headed for the post office. I assumed that they would not cash the money order and I would then take it on to the bank. The line was not long and my nemesis clerk was not on duty so I was feeling good. Got the packages weighed and totaled for $6.40. I then held up the money order and said "Is this too much to cash here?" "No problem" the clerk said, ran it through the machine, and handed me $7.46 in change. I stood there in shock trying to get my head around what had happened. She looked at the money order again and said "Oh I thought it was $13.86." I asked if she could cancel the transaction and I would go to the bank. She said she could not and if she cashed it she would have to close her station. After a time out to photocopy the MO and some fritzing with the computer I finally got my money. To the end she was still insisting that the New Jersey post office did not fill it out correctly.

All's well that ends well I guess. Thanks for letting me vent.

I think the world has gone insane. For some reason it seems that people's brains are not working.

But in all fairness, I've had more than my share of bad days recently as well. I've done some things that were so stupid that I won't even tell <g>. Let's just say they keep me humble.

She is one of the nicer ones. I didn't get mad I was just scared because she just stood there staring at the computer for some very long minutes while I chattered away offering suggestions. I could just feel my $120 something slipping away. I knew there had to be a way to fix the problem but she did not seem to be coming up with any for what seemed like a long time. I was even beginning to feel guilty for causing her this problem.

I know what you mean LtRay I get a brain freeze from time to time. Thank goodness I didn't have one at the same time and walk away from the counter without noticing how much money she gave me.

I just got back from a post office run. Knew I would get the lady I had the money order kafaffel with yesterday and indeed I did. I was not sure how she would react to seeing me again. She was soooo nice to me, smiling and friendly. She did say that it took her all day to straighten out the mess.

I had a problem at our Canadian Post Office recently. I am disabled, so my husband does all my mailing. When he brought back the receipt, I saw that they had sent a package to England that I had marked surface mail, airmail rate. It was quite a bit of difference, so my husband told them the next day, and they immediatly gave him the overcharge back. I was very relieved, I would actually have lost on that deal, and of course, my package went airmail! We have always found them very reasonable. It's easy to make mistakes, especially when there is a big pile of packages like he often takes.
