neglus... i'm thinking that if you treat it as a 'regular las vegas trip' that thru any travel agency or online venue, you can probably GET a hotel on the strip for cheap. they're big "draw" is charging hardly anything for the rooms because they assume you'll be downstairs spending the money gambling and having cocktails! (which, for the evenings, isn't a bad time either LOL) .... i went to vegas about 10 years ago, to the Mirage, and the 'cocktails' the gals bring around are "free" but they make out nicely on the many tips.

p.s. ...and Oh, the stories i could tell... but what happens in las vegas, stays in las vegas ROFL

Casual visitors who never wander far from the Strip don't realize it, but Vegas is huge now, with distinct communities and lots of places to stay. So, much will depend on where you need to be. We've stayed at the Courtyard Las Vegas Summerlin, which is northwest of the Strip and located next to many restaurants and a large shopping center. They serve a great breakfast and it's what you expect from Marriott: a clean decent room. It runs around $129 a night on weekdays.

There are alll kinds of deals in Las Vegas,2 for 1 etc.
If you know which hotel you are interested in,go to their website and log on to their calender,it will show you room rate day by day and it will drop as the day gets closer.
Las Vegas down town is not bad, rooms may be smaller, but food is cheaper and chances of winning is higher and they have a bus which will take you to the strip.
Most do not have coffee makers in the room.
I stayed at the Flamingo hotel last time,it is older but not that bad and great central location, they will give you 5 dollars off coupon for Ceasar's and Harrah's buffet.
Always ask for coupons .

Hi all,
Check out Santa Fe Station. It's out on Rancho Road, which is the road to Tonopah. My sis used to live at Painted Desert Golf Course, which is about 1/2 mile from the hotel. I would stay there when I visited her.
It's quiet, has decent food and the rooms are nice. At least they were the last time I was there.
I didn't dig very deep in their website just now but they are advertising rooms from $60 a night.

My thoughts too Prof LOL Was hoping for cheaper and not too interested in gambling this time (have to set a good example for the young 'un) - I just want easy parking because we probably will be doing some driving and SAFE and of course, CLEAN...we'll do the Strip another time.
aintrich - sounds like it's been awhile since you've been to Vegas. Cheap hotel days are GONE.
hwa - I have been going to the hotel sites but got a better price quoted on Priceline.com. I guess I will keep checking.
Fluff - your place sounds great. I wanted her to teach in Summerlin but she (idealist 23 yo) opted for inner city school instead - she'll be teaching lower primary grade.
Still looking...

Checked out motel prices briefly on the Sun Country site - All of the "Station" hotels seemed to be priced right, Santa Fe Station has already been mentioned, there's also a Texas Station and a Palace Station, all priced at around $50

Perhaps you don't. When traveling on business, $129/night is pretty cheap considering all that you get.
Of course there are always Motel 6, Days Inn and those kinds of places. You pay less, but you don't tend to get things like Internet connections or a decent breakfast. And quality is dicey. I had to stay at a Motel 6 recently, having run out of other options. I was told the room was non-smoking but I guess the mice had a serious nicotine habit because it reeked. These properties are usually poorly-lit and I worry about my car being broken into.
I always ask for and get the 10% AAA discount wherever I go.

Sam's Town, also out on Rancho Road, is another with fairly low prices.
Weekend rates, no matter where you stay in Las Vegas, are going to be much higher than during the week.
The hotels on Rancho have better parking availability than downtown or (perish the thought) the strip.

There are many condos for rent right off the strip ~ a friend of mine stayed in a two bedroom condo for a week ~ $149!!
I know there was a week minimum, I know it was near MGM & NYNY (just behind on of the other four corners). Behind the Tropicana? Cant remember which hotel it is behind ~ one of the older ones!
If you are interested, lmk and I will get in touch with him in the morning.

As I type this I am at the Laquinta on Sahara...way west of the strip. It's $109 a night but comes with a kitchen. Full size fridge, microwave, stove top, dishes. They have a little breakfast down in the lobby area and Wifi in the rooms. And the pool is out of this world. It's open 24 hours. I've been swimming at midnight for the last two nights. It's about 100 degrees right now at night and I'm in heaven! A huge change from the 60 degree weather I left on Friday.
Steve and I are getting hitched tomorrow night and then we will head down to Santa Fe for a short honeymoon. We rented a convertible so it will be a great road trip.
I'm planning on reserving a spot back here at the Laquinta next Saturday the 14th for just one more night before we fly home on Sunday the 15th. That would be cool if you were here too....we could say howdy!

Neglus,
FWIW, my idealistic daughter also wanted to teach in the inner city, and spent a year in the heart of Philly.
She's still an idealist, but is attending graduate school to do social policy instead. Not all 5'2" sweethearts are intended for inner city schools.

Ewora - Congrats! I just figured out that you are "getting hitched" on my 24th anniversary! WOOOOOO HOOOOOOOO! Still haven't decided on hotel yet
Cash - my daughter is 5'2" and a sweetheart too. I think inner-city Vegas could be a little different than Philly. What really scares me (with the world as it is these days) is that my youngest is applying for Peace Corps after college graduation next June. I suppose I'll be asking about cheap hotels in Tanzania then

Congrats Ewora!
Nothing but the best for you!
Sorry for the psoting delay ~ twins are sick and I am cranky from lack of sleep!
The condo is called Homefront Suites, two bedroom sleeps six people, located just behind Hooters!
Could be a total timeshare by now but worth looking into!

Thank you everyone. It was actually a really cool wedding. We rented a convertable, bought matching hawaiian shirts and did the drive-up wedding. Our witnesses were about 20 French tourists. I took a picture of them taking pictures of us...really funny. It actually turned out to be a very touching and intimate cermony. The photographer will be mailing us pictures on a disc. I'll post one if any of them turn out decent.
I was looking at an apartment finder publication and they listed apartments that they rent out by the week for executives and such. You might google Las Vegas Executive apartments or something similar. They go for about $200 a week.

Neglus,
A good starting point could be where your daughter needs to go for her appointments. That could be a base for which end of the valley to start looking for room rates.
Any of the perimeter hotels would be in the $40-$70 range. I say $40 because I have player cards and am on all of their mailing lists so I get $40 room rate postcards all the time.
When do you need the room?

Thanks Cynthia - daughter is at work now - not sure where her appts are. Her school is centrally located so she figured she can live just about anywhere but there.
I did book a room at one of the Stations hotels (looks like those are the ones you locals favor from the other thread) - rate was not bad since we are staying a Saturday and Sunday night, they averaged about $75/nite (between weekend and weekday rates). Thanks everyone for the help!

can't find it in google, either.
must be totally time share now.
if you are not committed on the hotel room, you may want to try www.i4vegas.com ~ staying at major hotels averaging under $50 per night depending on dates.
worth looking into....
