It's still amazing to me how many kind and generous folks there are here on this board -- a huge number helped me out back in DEC when I had my dental disaster...
But, over the past 2 months, ole Ralphie and me have really hit rock bottom in just about all departments you can imagine...
The pain and embarassment of being booted off feeBay started a cascade of kaka that seems to never end.
Ralphie scared the hell out of me 2 weeks ago -- I saw a few small bloodspots on the kitchen floor...Went over to Ralphie and asked: "Yo! Chunky-butt! Where ya bleeding from?" He replied with a sneeze that exploded BLOOD all over the place! I'm having a stroke thinking me little roomie is preparing to shuffle west...WTF, Ralphie? Didja get a stick stuck up yer snout? Does he have a brain tumor? Did Captain Howdy take over his soul, and I now get to watch me boyo puke pea soup, along with interesting neck rotations!
So, I rushes my sweet BT to the VET -- his BP is sky-high...By the next day (he stayed overnight) he's fine, but probably should be taking allergy meds now & forever...BTW: he's back to his normal goofus self...
Then my NEW Pain Clinic decides that my life ain't "interesting" enough & decides to put me into narcotics (after 7 years) withdrawal via SUBOXONE "treatment" -- we having fun, yet?
Then, just to prove that the Master-Of-The-Universe really does have a sense of humor -- in the middle of the night, while sleeping, my front tooth falls out! Thank goodness I didn't swallow this crown. So's I mosey on over to yer friendly local Florida Fang-Quack for a QUICKIE GLUE-JOB...
"Not so fast," said the Walrus to the Carpenter, "young Thomas here looks to be a fine and juicy oyster, ready for a good shucking!" And charges $200 to glue a fang back into my handsome, yet rapidly becoming elderly, noggin!
It's been a FUN past two months!
I really don't have a true family support system. I'm not complaining, I LIKE living "alone" -- just me & my BT...
But, in reality, I fortunately do have a "support system" that has really saved my butt over & over, and that "support system" is three of my friends I've met here over the years.
If it weren't for Neva and Cheryl and, ESPECIALLY Jane, I don't know how we would have survived the past 6 months...
Which brings me to the POINT (about time, ya old goat!) of this rambling thread: to first THANK you three who have been sooooo very kind to me-&-Ralphie...
And to let everybody know that one of Jane's fur-kiddies, a fine, strapping fellow of the feline persuasion by the name of Simon is VERY CRITICALLY ILL from an unknown septicemia, and is in the ICU at the Univ. of Penn Vet College Small Animal Hospital in Philly...
So, Ralphie & I are really pulling for the poor guy & sent him a Care2 E-CARD yesterday...
Knowing how Jane feels about animals, you can just imagine what she's going thru right now...Hopefully, she'll update Simon's condition here...

Sorry to hear about Jane's kitty and also that Ralphie has been sick.
I have been meaning to write a follow up on the post I left last month about our dog's Cushing disease. It has been a roller coaster but things may be looking better. I should know more next week.
Best wishes for all the Vendio pets. I know how loved they are.

I'm not really a "pet person" because I never grew up with pets. ... but I surely don't wish their illnesses and problems on any of their families. I understand that to pet owners, their pets are "like their babies... their family!"... I would imagine that even MORE-so for people that live alone, with their "pet(s)" ... it's their lifeline. God bless ya all.
inre, " ...And charges $200 to glue a fang back into my handsome, yet rapidly becoming elderly, noggin!"
CRIPE, tomwii ... I think I would used superglue! lol ... what a rip-off. what kind of 'insurance' do you have in medical and dental and sight? ... i get really upset hearing about all the problems you have, AND the fact that you've served our country in the military, and that you're not being taken care of properly!!! ... it makes my blood boil.

I was hoping that the VA would help me with some meds that I can't really afford (either they are still BRANDED, or the co-pay is HIGH), but the LOCAL VA tells me that, although I did serve during VN, and that I do have THREE HONORABLE discharges (USCG + NH AIR NAT GUARD + USNR), I qualify for NOTHING...And, I feel guilty even calling them, with all the mangled kids returning home from that mess in IRAQ...When I was working at a big huge hospital, I had FANTASTIC DENTAL insurance...INDIVIDUAL dental insurance ain't worth the paper it be printed on -- tis a total SCAM (at least here in FL it is)...
Anyhoo...
When I was a kid, I was allowed to own NO pets, which is probably why I'm such an animal freak now that I'm a geezer...
Two weeks ago, when Ralphie was blowing blood out his nose, I went into total meltdown...I'd never even ever heard of a dog with a nosebleed -- thought he was a'croaking on me! BT's are susposed to be long-life doggies, so, I'm hoping he outlives me...

THAT IS WHAT I find is SO VERY WRONG!!!. ... govt. (us and taxes) should be helping each and every one of our soldiers and veterans get thru their life till the end. ... it's "JUST WRONG" ...
.. as far as "us", we don't have dental insurance, but i'm thinking about starting to send our dentist x amt. per month, sort of like savings acct., to go toward our future dental bills .... i think he would go for that, plus, he barters for antiques.

McJane, Sorry you are going through this. My heart goes out to you and prays for the best. Ralphie, glad to hear you're better and sorry you (and Tom) had to go through this. All - The drug companies, pushed to the wall by the HMO's and insurance companies that negotiate the rock bottom price of drugs for their insured participants, pass along the highest costs to the folks without prescription insurance. One way they are trying to keep government from stepping in to "solve" this dilemma, is through Partnership for Prescription Assistance https://www.pparx.org/Intro.php which concedes that many people need medication they cannot afford and offers some assistance.

tomwiii, I was in the Army in 55-57, this was the wind down of Korea. I never left the states. I go to the VA, get meds and what ever have for years. Knowing the VA I would try again. Maybe a different office or ??

Oh, Jane, I'm sorry to hear about Simon. I'll pray for a full recovery! This has not been a good time for animals. My brother's beloved 3-year old dog, Brutus, was hit by a car and killed last Friday. He's been a wreck. They're out in the country so when Brutus went to chase a squirrel, Stephen wasn't too worried. The guy was distracted at the time because he was talking on his cell phone. What if Brutus has been someone's child instead of someone's dog?

Thank you everyone for your words of comfort & encouragement about my cat Simon, it means more to me than you will ever know. I don't feel so alone anymore.
Because my reply is kind of long I've started another thread (OT Simon) to let everyone know Simon's little story.
