Since many of my pieces cost 55 cents (insertion plus gallery) to list, I'll be saving 20 cents each on those. Not too shabby.

Thanks for the heads-up.

Guess if you are listing a large amount of cheap stuff, its OK but I thought Meg wanted to get rid of the clutter. One would expect an awful ot of clutter on this deal.

errrr... ummmm... i am completely confused by this.

if we list for 9.99 or less, and add a gallery pic, is the 'start' fee simply .35 cents?

You are right fluff...it will save you a nice amount. I will probably list some just to check and see if using gallery does help.

Think I will pass on this one - I don't see the up side of listing cheap when everyone else is listing cheap too. The good stuff will get lost in the junk.

If they are extending this to Chinese sellers listing on the US site, it might be hard to wade through all the listings. Just about all list for 9.99 or less and put in a gallery pic. Ofcourse the shipping might be $30.00 or more for a 3 oz article and they might not even have the item in stock - they just have the factory photo or one they "borrowed" from someone and if they do not have it, they will just send a substitute which will arive 3 or 4 weeks later.

Still wonder why Ebay made this offer snce in addition to getting rid of "clutter" the argument for raising the gallery from .25 to .35 was to cut down on it's useage since it was putting a strain on their servers.

eBay only ever offers incentives when listing numbers drop too low... A sudden increase in the number of sellers and items listed but with static or falling view/buyers numbers will only lower the average sales price and sell through rate.

Ofcourse they are not going to offer incentives when their listing rates are high and I gather Wednesday is not the best day for anyone to list either since so many of their promotions are on a Wednesday.

I have also noticed that many of their 20 cent listing specials occur at the end of a quarter - no doubt to impress stockholders.

This one should be a good opportunity for bottom feeders if they do not tire in their searches.

I was actually planning on launching auctions on Wednesday this week, but after reading this, I think I'll pass...unless I do 5 day listings because I think most sellers do 7 day listings for these events. Too many listings and things get lost in the mess maybe? Sales have certainly been down - I sure hope things pick up soon!

I love this logic.

If you don't list anything tomorrow, you won't have any sales seven days later.

If you do list some things tomorrow, you may have a lot of sales seven days later or not.

This being an uncertain world, it seems to me you're better off listing.

And if you listed today, your sales will problably be in the toilet because all the other sellers will have gallery listings.

I'd rather see ebay try to drive buyers to the site, rather than encouraging sellers to post mass listings during the same exact day.

So what?

In my category all the sellers use Gallery anyway.

kinda dissapointing. The reserve I would have to place far exceeds any savings. crap...

Sorry folks, but this one is right up my alley, so I'm not going to whine. Almost all of my listings are $9.99 or lower and this will get me off my butt and save me 40 cents for each listing (I always use gallery). I'm going to list some for 3, 5 and 7 days so I should catch some sales somewhere.
Also, I found out that unless you use SYI you will not see the discounted fees. I clicked on 'ebay preview' and was shown the full 75 cents. But it is supposed to work on the invoice.

But it is supposed to work on the invoice.

Unfortunately, I don't trust eBay enough to count on that. Most of what I have I would move from my store to core. However, pmelcher is right, it's still showing the normal insertion fees doing it that way. I don't have time to redo listings to get the savings and I don't trust eBay to credit my account.

I use auctiva and have launched a few things. It is showing - for insertion fee and .35 for gallery fee on my ebay account so looks like it is working. (for me).

Yes, it works. The same thing was true the last time there was a promo -- showed up in your account but not when you launched or calculated fees (I used TurboLister). Just launched one to see, and it's correct in my seller account as well.

This is not a bad promo for me, since I start everything at 9.99 with gallery anyway. Yes, a good push to get things listed (although last week was one during which I seemed to be invisible -- I swear it's the server you're on! I'm on 19 ...)

"In my category all the sellers use Gallery anyway"

So if you want to make your item stand out, don't use gallery. Same with the ALL CAPS sellers, use small letters to make your item stand out.

This is just a sucker sale. Essentially gallery is free, which I never use anyway since it doesn't help one bit. Too many sellers have gotten sucked in to the all gallery on all listings. This wasn't what ebay had in mind when they started it. It was meant to highlight a special item you might be selling, not everything. That's why its priced so high.

Well, I DO remember the early days of eBay when you had to click on EVERYTHING to see what it was ... as in a listing for "old vase" and maybe there was a picture, and maybe there wasn't ... incredibly time consuming.

I for one was thrilled with the gallery at the time it came out, and when I shop certain categories (quilts, paintings or lamp shades are good examples), I scan the gallery to see if I want to click in.

It depends on the category whether it's helpful or not ... do buyers browse or search? If it's one where they search, it makes no difference.

So if you want to make your item stand out, don't use gallery.

Bad advice.

The few things I don't use Gallery on die a sad and lonely death.

Remember, we're talking jewelry. People like to be able to see it.

Gallery can help or hurt IMHO. Sometimes if a buyer has to click on the link to see and read the description, they like what they see after they have taken the time to really see the listing. Sometimes with the gallery, they just scan by it and don't bother to go to the auction at all.

This isn't a bargain at all. I rarely use gallery as I have found that potential buyers will see the gallery photo and pass. If I don't use gallery, they will actually have to open the listing to view the item. Which in turn increases the chances of a sale.

I will have to pass on this one. This is simply NOT a good deal. Only saving 5 cents a listing will does not make up for the low sell through rate. I will simply list my normal amount on this one.

For me, the real problem is having to list things below 9.99 to take advantage of this "deal"for an auction in August. The bidders are not hanging around computers in August as much as they are at other times, so if it is a higher priced item, you will be selling it for the starting bid, if at all.

Actually, we've found that sales start to pick up the second week of August and continue strong through September. People are buying for back-to-school, but think beyond school supplies. There actually are people who buy new jewelry to go with their new clothes.

People who sell clothing, shoes and accessories should be listing big time right now.

I regret that we will be on vacation for most of September. I'll miss a lot of sales.

Also, I don't want to name names, but I've looked through some Vendians' auctions and a return to basics is definitely in order.

I imagine this is probably true as well for some of you who are terrified that someone might find out your eBay ID.

By "basics" I mean:

-Using a high concentration of keywords in your title and omitting useless terms that no one searches on, like "the". Use a thesaurus if you need to.

-Spelling keywords correctly. eBay won't cover you on this, even with the new "finding experience".

-Inadequate descriptions.

I just think it's funny that people blame special listing events for poor results when they should be looking a lot closer to home.

These days you pretty much need to have gallery pictures to compete, unless you have such catchy descriptions like-
.100 troy ounce of scrap gold no reserve ,starting bid 9.99
.Queen Elizabeth II diamond tiara 9.99 no reserve
.Authentic 18th c Meissen PUG dog sold at Christie Intl for $35,000 no reserve 9.99
.100 American golden eagle coins (1 oz) starting bid no reserve 99 cents
.Tiffany studio Dragonfly lamp no reserve, free shipping 9.99

I doubt if the Chinese are rejoicing over this offer, with an exchange rate of 8 to 1,their credit card bills are mounting as few of their items get bids.
Plus when they go to transfer their US balance from their Paypal account to their bank account, the Chinese govt will step in and convert them into Chinese dollars for them and charge a fee for doing so.
If you ever notice they dont have any antiques, all repros, even on Ebay China, there are few antiques or vintage stuff, they are selling each other repros.
