I received an email only in My Messages that is wanting me to pay my eBay fees today as payment was denied by my automatic payment method. No way is that true as I have plenty of money in that account. Besides the invoice came yesterday and so did the non-payment received message. Below is what was sent. I did send all the info to eBay but wanted to know your feedback. Have any of you on the board received one of these?

Please pay your eBay fees today

Dear (my correct name)

We are writing to alert you that your monthly eBay seller fees have not been paid because your automatic payment method was declined. To continue to use eBay as normal and avoid collections, please complete the following two steps:

1. Make a one time payment via PayPal, credit card or cheque. This will be used to pay for this months invoice.
2. Update your automatic payment method. We will use this to pay for future invoices.

If you have additional questions, please refer to the bottom of this email or use our Help system by clicking on the "Help" link at the top of most eBay pages. If you are unable to answer your questions, you can click on "Contact Us" to send an email to Customer Support.

Please note - if your balance is zero or you have recently made a one time payment, please disregard this message.

Regards,
eBay Inc.

Yes, I just received the same message in My Ebay "eBay Payment Reminder - Action Required",
yesterday the notice for payment came and a credit card is on file with lots of room for payment to be made.

I am ignoring the email since I know there should be no problem with payment.

I received the same message! Plenty of money in my account and anyway they never take it out until the 20th - what the heck is going on??? I don't think it is a good idea to ignore it.

This isn't a fake for sure. My payments have come from my checking account for 5 years without a problem. Could it be on Wells Fargo's end? Anyone else use Wells Fargo?

Same thing here. Usually, and I only know this because my old card expired earlier this year, there will be a line that says "payment declined" in your seller account. There isn't.

No email to my inbox. Did not use my real name in salutation, but my user ID. And check is spelled "cheque" and there's an apostophe missing in "this months payment."

I don't see the point though ... didn't seem to ask me to click on anything?

got the same message....I have the fees taken out of a checking account...if not enough in there it comes out of the "back up payment method". Waiting for ebay support to open up on this one so I can call them.

I am pretty sure it's not a fake - my real name was in little letters beneath "dear ebay user". I wonder if they are changing billing dates?

I certainly don't want to make a payment only to have them charge it again on the 20th!!

I got this message also. I accessed it through the eBay message system, then went to my account and it shows the credit card was updated on 9-1 - not possible. My card was not expired. Sounds like a major screw-up. I tried to access live help and got a "major wait" message so this must have gone out to a LOT of people.

Actually there was a place highlighted in blue to click on to log in to ebay.com so maybe that was where they were going to get money from my PayPal account or bank. You are right, they do not spell check as cheque. And the name was my eBay selling name, not my real name. It all smells pretty fishy to me. Thank you for all of your imput!

IT's not a fake but it is a GLITCH. PS board is full of similar posts. They are going to be SWAMPED.

I take it back - probably the best way to handle this is to ignore it until we find out what's what.

Looks like everyone on Automatic Payments is getting this message - CC, Bank and PayPal.

UK and Canada use "cheque", if it came from eBay.com you would think it would say "check". I am Canadian, and my invoice come through Switzerland.

Yep...same message. Has to be a glitch, I would wait it out for now. "Cheque" ? that's a certain tip off things aren't right.

I just checked my ebay account and they bill me every month on the 11th.

This is only 9/5

So why would they be sending me an email saying that payment was denied? I have automatic payment listed plus this is too soon for payment to be made.
The email dose look like it came from ebay but there is nothing that I can do right now since payment is not due till 9/11

Evidently this was posted on ebay.uk:

Please note that some members who have set up to pay their eBay fees by automatic payment may receive an alert informing them that their automatic payments have been declined. The message will advise members to make a one-time payment in order to settle their accounts.

If you have received one of these messages, please ignore it. There is no need to make a one-time payment. Payment will be collected using the normal automatic period in the next few days.

If you have already made a one-time payment, please note that you will not be charged again in this billing cycle.

We apologise for the confusion that has been caused. We are working to identify and fix the cause of the problem.

Regards,

The eBay.co.uk and eBay.ie Teams

Wow, I got this message also. Wish I had checked here first before getting worked up before my morning coffee. I wrote to Ebay Power Sellers support, waiting for a canned answer.

Actually, I never got an email in my regular email account. I got an ALERT when going to send an invoice.

No, that's rumor being posted as fact.

Note that Ina "I make it up as I go along" Steiner doesn't cite one single authoritative source, only some lame blog.

Like many others here, I don't have my fees deducted from my PayPal account, so her surmise is pure garbage.

Fluff's right - my payments are taken from a bank account and has nothing to do with my PayPal account. Problem is either more far-reaching or unrelated to the PayPal problem.

We know for sure that these messages were received on the US Canadian and UK sites. I wonder how many people have spent a worrying time this morning wondering what was going on. It seems strange that the message didn't come through on a regular email. Could it have been a hack?

Not fake but a glitch I am certain. It came in the form of an alert in my messages in my ebay when I signed in but I was able to delete it so I think they must have working on the problem.

Yep I logged on and there was the alert here is image of what I got logging into ebay. Gosh they must be hard up to rush alerts out like this--geez I sold 1 thing in last 3 months and owe them a whole $1.67, I think someone got ticked at ebay who works for them and caused a panic just for grins. Well it sounds plausable.

I'm surprised but Ina on Auctionwatch actually posted an update that said PayPal was not connected with the alert glitch.

Yeah, nice mea culpa there, Ina.

Oh wait. You never admitted that your report was pure speculation or apologized for the error. Real publications do that, Ina.

Confirms what I've known all along: Auctionbytes bites.
