I know that eBay hides the ID of bidders on items over $200 but while checking an item that is currently $18.50 I found the bidders were, h***r, r***a, and r***r and the feedback numbers are not links. Is this a new policy? The stated policy on the bid page still says "higher-priced items" so maybe things are so bad on eBay that $18.50 is considered higher priced.

Well, that is interesting! I don't have anything with bids right now or I would check it out on mine. Scary thought that $18.50 is 'higher priced'.

I just found another auction for about $58 (reserve not met) with the same *** instead of the bidder ID. Also found a high dollar auction with ***. As I remember in the past those auctions showed bidder 1, bidder 2, etc.

I suspect the high bidder on these reserve auctions has made a proxy bid of more than $200, but not enough to meet the reserve. The underbidder has made a small bid to bring the bid showing to $18.50 or whatever. Both bidders will show anonymously in that case.

Birgittaw, that must be it. In that case I hope the $18.50 high bidder knows that what is for sale is missing half of the complete item.
