I think it might also be a factor if you wanted to insure through them, too.
We use red and silver foil stickers that say: "Fragile, Please Handle With Care" -- about 3-4 per package of glass or porcelain (and we write "GLASS" on each side in large permanent marker.)
The counter drones still ask the same questions -- "Anything fragile, liquid or perishable?"
It's gotten so routine that I just point to the stickers and don't respond any more.
(And, you should take more "thinks" to the Post Office. They don't have many of them - or brains to do it on some days... <smile>
