Take a look at this item I won:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=320152053536

Would you think from the listing that this was a 1930's postcard? Well I must have SUCKER written all over my face because it is a 2001 reproduction of a 1930's postcard. Dimensions stated in ad were standard postcard dimensions and this card is more continental sized.

And to think I only bid because I felt sorry for the seller who posted on the Stores board that he/she/it was forced to close the store because of eBay!! I looked at his postcard listings and decided that the poor guy didn't have the slightest clue how to sell postcards. It turns out that I must not have the slightest clue how to BUY on ebay.

No wonder the place is losing buyers! Guy misrepresents product, overcharges shipping, doesn't combine as stated in ad, doesn't take PayPal, has the balls to file UPI on me as soon as he/she can even though we were in communication (I tried to see if I could send extra money so I could use PayPal)and I have about 30,000 total positive FB.

I am so digusted!

He misrepresented the card. Is this why eBay is closing him down? Good riddance!

What gave you the idea it was a 1930's postcard? Was it the "1930's" ALL OVER THE LISTING? I counted it 4 times, and I probably missed a few.

She blamed eBay for her Store's failure - can't remember exactly - probably because they took away visiblity.

It isn't the money that bugs me about this deal because it's a pittance. It's the fact that she is selling to the same people I am and if they too get disgusted, they won't come back and buy from ME and other reputable dealers.

I've emailed and just said these were reproductions and I don't want them. Can't wait to read her response.

OMG - I went to find her post on the Stores board and she sounds fairly articulate and able to tell a repro from a vintage postcard!\

Found this gem of a post from her:

"This is the biggest problem for us American sellers. China selling fakes and getting away with it and not having to pay any fees.

We need to wake up."

I guess she decided if you can't beat em, join em!

She handled it well and offered a full refund with postage:

"Hi, I'm sorry you're unhappy with your purchase. Send 'em back for a full refund, including postage both ways."

I can't figure why an othewise apparently honest seller would try to sell these like this!? Certainly she didn't make enough on them to make it worthwhile to jeopardize her reputation

Here's my response:

Thanks for your response XXXX - I was waiting to see how you handled it and you handled it well. It's not the money - I just want to make sure these are not sold to postcard buyers (who also might be my customers) as 1930s postcards when they are clearly not 1930s postcards. This kind of practice hurts all of us postcard sellers as much as the Chinese sellers selling knock offs of other products. If you have any more to sell, please show a scan of the back of the postcard or state publication information in your listing. No need to refund, I will keep the cards and chalk this up to a learning experience.

I won't leave Feedback as I wouldn't want potential buyers of this product to think I endorsed it.

I am posting some auctions for Postcards this week, most of mine will be sold in lots. Doesn't the number on the postcard give you an idea what year it was printed? I believe most of mine are from the 70's. I ran some from Jerusalem that appeared to be from 1975.

Neglus: Speaking of feedback, this is off-topic--how long does an auction stay in our "feedback to be left" page before ebay deletes it? So far I have 3 months going on one that I refuse to leave FB for unless he leaves it first (big sale, risky). Any idea how long it stays?

MAH, Curt Teich was kind enough to code his cards so you can decipher the year. Reproduction cards should be marked as such with a modern date on them, if not, they're counterfeit fakes.

Mary Ann, if you don't leave feedback you are contributing to the problem. That's the result of eBay's changes to feedback.

This dipso seller should be culled under eBay's "get rid of the worst" program. But you have to leave feedback to make that happen.

It's time you used a buying ID, yes?
