We usually close down for December because the eBay traffic just isn't there after December 1.

What will you be doing?

I plan to just list as usual, I know it isn't great after Dec 1 but I have to keep the 'stuff' flowing out of the house and get my daily 'fix' of eBay. I lost my Power Seller earlier this year and just haven't gotten the listings up enough to get it back, it has been a busy summer with 'real life'. How was your cruise?

I have always had strong sales in DEC. Close down about the second week of Dec because that is it!! No more frantic trips to PO.

pmelcher: I think Power Seller's status should be determined on an annual basis rather than monthly. Some people DO take vacations, take a breather or skip certain months due to other obligations, but make up for it later.

I normally close down around the 15th until after Christmas and vacation, but this year I am going to stay open until the 20th, and then shut down for about a week (and vacation) - Traditionally, December hasn't been that great for me, but I expect better sales this year as I have a new inventory channel that will see an increase in sales - and hopefully gifts.

I try to not engage in the "Christmas joy "
Seriously , I do try to slow to almost a halt a week or so before December 25th .

I used to cut back a lot in December thinking that people would be buying gifts for others rather than postcards for themselves but last year I kept business going at the usual pace and found that sales were strong.

Last year DH was in Russia on business until Christmas Eve, one of my daughters was in Asia on study abroad and the other daughter didn't come home from college until right before Christmas. It was easy to work through the holiday because there wasn't much else going on here.

This year I will decide based on personal preference. I know sales can be strong (maybe because other sellers are taking the month off?) but time with my family is very important too.

I plan to list like any other month. It's all inventory for my store if it doesn't sell.

Our cut off date for international shipments is Dec 6 so I'll probably cease selling a few days prior. Usually do some relists on the post-Xmas cheap listing days which are quite popular (since the rest of the Internet goes on holiday).

As usual I'll be closely watching my competitor's listings to see if they have any success (and with which items) so I can do some parallel listings with slightly lower prices...

I plan on listing until around the middle of the month. Sales are usually good. Then I'll take about a two week Breather.

The week between Christmas and New Years is often a good one for selling. People are flush with Christmas cash, it seems, or maybe just relieved that the crush is over.

Fluffy,

My theory about that week and the early part of January is that it's a sweet spot caused by people being tired of buying presents for others and wanting to treat themselves, and its being before the credit card bill arrives.

November and December are my strongest months, with orders right up through Dec 22 or 23rd when I shut down for Christmas and continuing on through January. This will, however, be my first year selling on eBay during Christmas, so will be interesting to see how it goes.

On my website, I usually set Dec 12 as the last date to order for guaranteed delivery before Christmas. What do you guys recommend on eBay based on past experience?

Are y'all planning any special holiday marketing initiatives to your currect or past customers?

I've always felt a bit overwhelmed by the last-minute blizzard of catalogues, each promising delivery by Christmas. I ship USPS first class. No way can I compete with last-minute shippers.

The Christmas season online begins the first week of October and generally ends around December 1st. Then it's hit and miss until the after-Christmas sales. Late December through mid January is always good.
