Some good insights into the minds of the petty schmucks who damage your feedback anonymously.
Thank heavens the HOW Cafe popped up to suck in the cheapskates who wouldn't pay to keep OTWA going. Otherwise they might have ended up HERE. <shudder>
If you like unintentional hilarity, the HOW Cafe is the place for you.

Fluffy, I was thinking this morning about the unfair star rating system.
The buyers can give fabulous feedback and then stab you in the back with the star rating, knowing there is no way to reciprocate.
I wonder if Ebay will ever call a halt to it?

If I took nine days to find a shipping box and didn't bother to contact the buyer during that time I would expect my stars to get chomped. I don't think that is a good example of petty.

Well, I guess we have different standards.
I buy a lot on eBay. I rarely get shipping notifications or indeed any kind of email from sellers, but on the other hand, I don't need hand-holding, either, nor do I expect Susie Crocheted Potholder in Boise, Idaho to behave the exact way Amazon would.
Besides, the used-underwear lady kept in touch and I would have preferred she hadn't. Ick. Package still hadn't arrived before I left and that was more than nine days after payment -- should I chomp her stars for that?
As long as I get the thing in a couple-three weeks, I'm fine with it.
Did you catch the thread with the woman who felt she had been overcharged 50 cents on shipping and is utterly outraged?

Zippy I agree in that case, but I ship the next business day after payment, no handling fees, immediate and friendly communication and describe the item exactly.
The seller gives me super feedback, why not 5 stars as well, instead of next best? It would be nice.

I said nothing about hand holding but if you intend to take more than a week to ship, either make it clear in your listing, or let me know or prepare to be chomped. I will not neg you but I also won't give you a 5 for shipping time.
As for having different standards, one can only hope. ;-}

If you ship once a week or what ever it should be in you listing. I think staying in touch with the seller or buyer which ever is just good PR. The star thing is good but there should be some recourse for us the seller. JMO

I haven't been selling very much since I started receiving social security. Because I only receive one feedback at a time, I am able to know who gave me the less than perfect rating. All of my stars had been between 4.9-5.0. After a buyer left her glowing feedback, my ratings went to 4.7-4.9 . I really don't understand why!! I had the cost of shipping right on the box, so she could see that I didn't overcharge. I made contact immediately after the auction ended...and shiupped the day after I received payment. My only alternative was to not leave her any feedback. If she emails me, I will tell her why. I have bent over backwards for these buyers. The star system is VERY unfair to sellers.

Well so far my stars are shinning bright with nothing chopped off, but I haven't gotten through Christmas yet, usually I get all the customers that are pissed because Rudolph left a mess in their yard and they take it out on me.

On my main ID I have a high all positive FB and I ship in 1 2 or 3 days depending. On my second ID I have someone who does my shipping for me and if she can't get it out the same day it was paid she just freaks out.
On my main ID I've got a 4.7 star for shipping time and on my second ID it's a 4.8 when it should be a 5.
This leaves me to believe the stars don't mean a thing.

Shouldn't there be a reciprocal detailed star system that swellers can use to leave detailed feedback about buyers. Thing like:
Sent many emails asking things clearly stated in listing
Items listed as U.S. sales only still placed bid from Azphuckistan and made payment in Yak turds
Bidder stapled check to invoice using roofing staples, The Club and duct tape
Bidder demanded to know why chrome postcard is made of paper instead of metal as expected!

Reminds me of my Top Ten list of Stupid Things eBay Buyers Do and Say:
10. "Just put it in a business-size envelope and put a 37 cent stamp on it"
9. "Can you track my shipped item and tell me where it is?"
8. "Don't you know my address? Why do I have to tell you?"
7. "I've already received items I bid on after yours."
6. "I know this auction is for an amethyst ring, but send me citrine instead."
5. "I know this auction is for size 10 but send me size 5 instead."
4. "Your auction doesn't have the shipping price anywhere in it." (LIE!)
3. "This ring is not a size 7. I know because my girlfriend's sister's ring fits me and I'm pretty sure she's a size 7."
2. "I don't want to pay 99 cents for this precious metal ring. If I buy a bunch, will you give me a better price?"
And the number one idiotic thing eBay buyers say:
1. "I know you're wrong, because I'm a seller, too!"
