Looks like eBay is experimenting with category specific pricing in UK, free gallery and a higher FVF if item sells. Could this be far off for US sellers?

Of course this could all be a moot point if a seller has crappy stars (ie: 4.5) and search is structured to hide items. Perhaps that will be eBay's defense - free listings and pay only FVF? Then eBay could hide whatever it wants without fear of reprisals?

Could they make that any more complicated?

Does it say free listing? I would not mind a free listing and a free gallery with a higher FVF. When you consider the number of items that do not get any bids plus the number of NPB"s which means the seller is still out those fees especially the listing fee if he/she does not relist, should think they would get more listings that way.

Maybe I read it too quickly but it looks like the increased FVF would eat up any savings on the listing fee.

But again people are allways complaining about the listing fee and the rest of the fees to a point where they say they are losing money. They could adjust their starting bid to accomodate the FVF and if the item does not sell at that price, they are out nothing. This way its a crap shoot. So many items go unsold that people decide not to risk losing money and do not list.

I think I may prefer that if nights like tonight continue!

For the first time I think, since I started on eBay in 2002 I had 12 auctions end this evening with NO bids. I have always had auctions ending on Saturday evenings and sure, some weeks are better than others but never a complete wipe-out.

When I checked the Omniture stats hardly anyone has even looked today or even in the past 3-4 days.

Yep...I think I could go for that but with my luck they won't include Pottery & China which is the category I list in the most!

This looks like they are toying with some ideas to increase the listings for Christmas. They give a free gallery with lower insertion fees and slam you with about 3% increase on the FVF. I would like all that but then they are only doing it on a couple of categories. Keeps them from having to change too much I guess.

eBay UK and their continental EU counterparts have been experimenting with cheaper listing fees + higher FVFs for a few years. It's really noticeable with really expensive CD/DVD listings in some eBay venues like Switzerland, France and Germany/Austria where average fixed prices are double or treble the average US/UK ones.

On a more disturbing note, eBay Australia is introducing a rather draconian acceptable payment policy (rather like the revised German one that prohibits discounts for non-PayPal payments). The new policy insists that you must accept all payment methods offered from all buyers with no restrictions. For instance you can no longer say you’ll only accept PayPal for purchases over $10.00, or that you’ll accept checks but not from international customers. If you offer a payment method in your listing you have to accept it regardless of the location of the buyer.

I'll stop selling international when that happens. My bank charges a hefty fee for international checks, which is why I don't accept them except through PayPal.

I accept checks drawn on U.S. banks only from all buyers, regardless of their location.
