I have to admit I hadn't heard about Rush's offending statement (not one of the programs I watch/listen to) or the Senate letter. The letter seems over the top to me - what were they thinking? (I am a registered Democrat so jump all over me) I am all for free speech - so what's this letter to a private citizen about? I'd think this would be a great investment - unique item with autographs galore. I think charities have to be bona fide to meet Mission Fish requirements don't they?

wow..where did all THAT venom come from....I'm not a huge fan of Rush, but I am just speechless over that bitter comment...

I'm surprised anyone could read "venom" or "bitter" out of that....I think it's hilarious!
No sense of humor?

Rush is a buffoon but, sadly, many neocons believe his every word (which is rarely true).

It's all part of the political give and take....he said that! ...he has to apologize....then the other side jumps back with something the other side said....I think it's funny but they really should get back to work...

Mingotree, calling RL a liar is one thing but this is a Mission Fish listing and they guarantee that the money will be distributed as promised. Are you calling them liars too? Why such nastiness?

The MissionFish Guarantee

As the exclusive charity solution provider for eBay Giving Works, MissionFish makes sure that every eBay Giving Works donation happens safely and reliably. Whether you're buying, selling or benefiting from a Giving Works listing, you can be confident that we're looking out for you every step of the way.

By keeping a close eye on the giving process, MissionFish makes sure that:
Every participating nonprofit is eligible to receive tax-deductible donations according to the IRS, and meets our community standards against violence and hate.
Every buyer knows which organization will benefit from a listing, and how much is being donated.
Every seller makes the donation that they promised or a $5 minimum gift (whichever is greater).
Every donation reaches a nonprofit as intended.
MissionFish has been helping organizations raise money through online auctions since 2000. Helping others help good causes is what we do because we're a nonprofit too: MissionFish is a service of the Points of Light Foundation.

From the auction:

""The entire proceeds of this auction.. the entire high bid... will be donated to The Marine Corps - Law Enforcement Foundation, a registered charity which provides financial assistance to the children of fallen Marines and federal law enforcement officers.

Rush Limbaugh serves on the Board of this organization and has been active on its behalf."""

And I'm sure there was no shill bidding or other shenanigans whatsoever with such an upright citizen on the board

Don't get all upset...IF the money goes to the children of slain soldiers(Which begs the question why doesn't the military take care of them?) I'm all for it.....it's just such a big "IF".

Nothing is ever what it seems at first glance.

"Which begs the question why doesn't the military take care of them?"

The money raised will help provide college scholarships to the children who have lost a parent. Do you really believe this is something the Marine Corps itself should be providing?

Are you willing to back this up with your own tax dollars? Don't you understand that this would mean more military spending and isn't that something you consistently argue against?

The winner is Betty Casey which means bitter disappointment (pun intended) for all the people who were hoping and praying for a non-paying bidder.

It seems Rush thinks he "broke" ebay:
"We were trying to get the latest bid amount in the last ten seconds, and on three different computers, we got a "system down" message. We broke eBay! I don't know that anybody has ever broken eBay"

Sorry Rush, not the first time - nor the last. Ebay is "Glitch-Central" I wonder how many of us have also suffered because bidders got a system down message in the final seconds of an auction.

Neglus - I know that your OP was not meant to be political. However, it certainly attracted those who are, and they so kindly provided their opinions. Which is why I thought that I was at the RT.

Part of the reason I stopped participating and reading the posts in the round table was the over-the-top nastiness and name calling of the Liberal members of Vendio - it just got old - you can present fact after fact and they can only respond with comments such as:
Drug addicted sleazebag
Drug addicted professional liar

Not only did this auction raise over 2 million dollars for a great cause - and yes, the money was already wired to the charity - but Rush Limbaugh matched the donation! A total of 4.2 million dollars was raised which provides full college scholarships to the children of Marines killed in combat.

I don't see any of those idiot Senators who wasted our tax dollars by smearing a private citizen on the floor of the Senate coming up with any matching funds for this cause.

This was the largest charity auction in Ebay history. I don't care what your politics are, this was over 4 million dollars for a very worthy cause.

Yup, the auction was SO successful that that lying SOS Harry Reid attempted to take credit for getting the letter on ebay.

So much for craws alter ego.

Money is not everything ming, but it is something when it goes to a worthy cause and does some good.
If the winning bid and Rush's generous match-up contribution did not go to the cause of the military children it was intended for, it would be all over the media like white on rice.
