The wind is essentially died down, the fires continue, nearly a million have been evacuated. But the good news is that firefighters have a better shot at the fires with the wind not so strong.
From our back porch in the dark, we can see about 60? miles to the south, red flames near Mount Palomar (where the observatory is). There is a large, bright red flaming area (so clear!), its reflection in the clouds, and another flame to the right of that. Three huge red blobs of color at the horizon. Frightening to look at.

All I see is rain non-stop.

I am so glad it is getting better, the fires are such a tragedy and I hope everyone gets the help they need. I am glad you are safe.

Jane: A night picture wouldn't work, and this morning there are NO smoke plumes from that mountain area, so we think they've conquered the fire there.

I'm attempting to post three day-time pictures of the Palomar area, from our back deck. Hope I can do this successfully. One of the pictures has an arrow pointing to the Palomar observatory location.
