I am very certain this is from PP - there was no link to click or anything to answer, used my real name :

Dear ******,

My name is Rendy and I am from PayPal Community Support.

I understand that you have not yet received the payment from ****
for $44.64 USD because up to now it is still unlearned.

I do apologize for that delay but that is actually a known issue on
PayPal's end and not on your buyer. I sincerely ask for your
consideration and understanding on this matter. Be it known also that we
are already working on this one and we are getting this resolved at the
earliest possible time.

I would like to let you know that you are valuable to us, and it is
important for us to help you resolve your concerns. If you feel that
this information is not enough or if you have any other concerns, please
do not hesitate to call us so that we can assist you directly.

Sincerely,

Rendy

Looks fishy to me, they usually use better English. Are you really missing that payment? Maybe the person wants you to think they paid so you will send the package?

Rendy works out of the Bangalore branch of PayPal, and flunked "Quiki-Mart English I&II" at Hardley Normal School...

Neglus, Did you look at the headers of the email? It does sound suspicious. Is English not the first language of PayPal support?

I have had several spoof emails from Paypal and eBay using my full name. I have written to ask them how these spoofers (is that a word!) got my name, but have never received a reply.

As you can see from the date, I was a little behind in opening "suspect" emails - I ordinarily don't touch the PP ones!

I checked and there really was an e-check transaction on PP with that buyer that took 9 days to clear. So much for our hypothesis that one can tell the validity of an EBay or PP email by the grammar and syntax. This was the real deal and definitely written by someone not all that fluent in English.

Could the word be unearned? Sometimes easy to make a typo and not check what was typed. Just a possibility.

If you look at the writer, name is Rendy, probably not someone who has English as a first language.

If the problem is known to affect other users and PayPal has taken the step to proactively notify Neglus, you would think the reps would be given a canned notification, written by marketing or legal.

Send a copy to [email protected] and have then check it to see if it is genuine of fake.

It is real. The subject line has the Paypal transaction # for the eCheck delay.

Yes, it is a 100% real - bona fide PayPal email. I just can't believe it! I think they need to issue cut-and-paste formats for these so users don't have to wonder! I am all for equal opportunity employment but an organization like PayPal needs to be extra careful about its communications. Surely they know that an email like I received would send up warning flags.

Was this an international sale? Paypal Community Support suggests that perhaps PayPal has support centers around the world to support local customers (not a bad idea).
