Here's a message I just got from a buyer:

"Hello there, beautiful item I must say. Basically here's the thing, A) How much would you charge for delivery to the UK and, B) I have a paypal account but only have uk sterling in there - do you accept that or not? If you don't is there an easy way for me to convert the sterling in my paypal account into US dollars for you - if yes, would you be prepared to talk me through it as obviously I've never done it before. Sorry to be a pain, usually I wouldn't bother with all the messing about with overseas items, but the set is just so beautiful... Thanks ever so,"

I've never had this question before and I guess I've assumed PayPal is PayPal, and when a foreign buyer pays me that way, there's no problem (at least I've never had a problem). Advice needed!

It's actually a preference you set in PayPal My Payment Preferences.

This is what I tell buyers from other countries.
Go to your Paypal account

Click on "Send Money"
Put my email address in the recipient box

Put $ or pounds in the amount box

Category of purchase "eBay items"

Change the currency to Canadian Sterling Austrialian or whatever.

The rest is self explanatory.

Thanks for the tips, you all. I've passed them on to the buyer; I'm sure it'll all work out.

The easy way is to simply invoice the buyer in your preferred currency and PayPal does all the currency conversion for both parties. Mind you PayPal do charge hefty currency conversion and international fees for the privilege.
