Ina Steiner has posted that eBay is offering free gallery from Nov 6 to Dec 12 and even posts a link. The link works, however, when I check the site I can't find that information. Is it true or not?

Most likely eBay hasn't announced it yet because they wanted their previous promotion to run the course.
For sellers like me, 33 percent off isn't anywhere near as good a deal as free Gallery, so I won't be listing much today.

That could be, I know I like free gallery better. I sent an email to Ina to ask her if she had some kind of inside track or where exactly to find the information on the eBay site (that was not her own link). As usual, no reply yet.

I agree free gallery is better. It should be free, anyway, so should BINs. BINs especially, it costs Ebay nothing and moves products faster.

Here is what the post says - I hope it is true
An option that makes it easier for shoppers to preview eBay items is going on sale for sellers just in time for the holiday shopping season. eBay is making its optional Gallery feature free from November 6 - December 12, 2007, for Auction-style and Fixed Price listings on the U.S. eBay.com website. Value Pack will be discounted to $0.50 and Gallery Plus will be discounted to $0.35 to reflect the free Gallery discount. Gallery adds a thumbnail photo next to listings in the search results pages and normally costs 35 cents.

Someone's awake - it's already posted on the Vendio Announcement board. Looks like Value Pack won't be such a bargain during the promo!

I have never used the Value Pak
I am just trying to figure how to list , because I am going to be out of town a few days My customers expect shipping the next day.
I will only miss one business shipping day-Friday . But if they Thursday night , it wil not get mailed until Tuesday

'Sokay, I hate Value Pack anyway.
If you use SYI, you have to strip it out by hand once the promotion is over. It's not just enough to click on "Remove"; SYI will still try to make you pay for a template you don't want.

Probably not.
If you look at the link:
http://pages.ebay.com/promo/freegallery/
and look at the link for the promotion that ends today:
http://pages.ebay.com/promo/33offinsertions
You'll see that the root directory pages.ebay.com/promo is where eBay announces its promotions. Granted, you can't read that directory listing, but you can make some educated guesses about what the next promotion might be.

Fluffy , that is all true, but Ina does provide lots of info.
Usually if it is happening, she has privy to it and shares the juicy details. I know, I know, we could probably research and get it ourselves.
I appreciate that site and appreciate the ones here that share their knowledge .

This is great. I use gallery 99% of the time, and often double-list, so it'll be a good savings for me.

I just tried to relist items with gallery through eBay and it shows a gallery fee. I went to the eBay announcements board and it reads that all listings will get gallery at no charge, no need to specify gallery. Does that mean we will be charged if we have already specified gallery?

I attempted to add a free gallery photo to a Vendio/eBay listing and the fee was $.35. What's up?

Pixi: From the announcement:
"The promotional rate does not apply to listings with a start date prior to November 6, 2007, **including those listings revised during the promotional period.** The promotional rate also does not apply to listings created November 6 - December 12, 2007 and scheduled to start after the promotion ends.

The gallery fee shows on your listing submission, but not on your statement. That seems to be the way it works (if I recall the last few promo events). Check your account to be sure.

Free Gallery should be the norm, but for me, it's not a bargain. My sales do better without Gallery anyway.

Briggitaw is right. The fee showed when I listed them, but my account wasn't charged for gallery.

Stone,
"My sales do better without Gallery anyway." I can understand why gallery might not improve a sale, but I have a hard time understanding how it would hurt a sale. Do you have a theory as to what happens? The only theory I could come up with is the thought that bidders might click on an auction without a gallery from curiosity about what the item looks like, whereas they think they've already "seen" it if there's a gallery photo... but it doesn't sound right.

In some cases, it might work better (but not always for the seller). In quilts, for example, I will invariably click into one without pic if it sounds interesting (pattern, material, age). And sometimes I've gotten some very good buys since apparently not everyone does.

Claude,
You pretty much have it. What happens with Gallery is buyers look through the pictures and if they don't see exactly what they are looking for, they pass on it, even if it what they really want with a slight variance. Now if they actually have to open the auction and then get a good look at the item along with a well written description, chances that they bid increase dramatically.

Store listings are now showing up with gallery. I just did a search nothing came up on auctions and all my store items are shown with gallery pic sweeeeeeeeeet.

Stone,
Live and learn. I wish I were still listing, because I'm tempted to try that technique out. I've always 100% listed with gallery, but in the counter-intuitive world of human buying behavior, it's worth an experiment.

So much depends on what you're selling. If I had an item (say, a matchbook cover or Christmas card), the picture of which is such a grabber that browsers will want to click on the item, I use gallery (most all the time I use it anyway) to draw them into my auction and ALSO to my other items displayed in Vendio Gallery at top of the page. Occasionally I'll omit the eBay gallery for reasons given by Stone, above.
