I have a copy of Miss B's first cookbook. The publisher is Bobbs & Merrill and on the copyright page it has c1950 Bobbs & Merrill. How can I tell if this is a first edition? I am totally dumb about books and the only site I have ever visited (other than ebay) to look at books is abe. Abe has this book priced pretty high and I would love to find out if mine is a first edition . Thanks

Go to Bookthinker (or Bookthink?).com. Their free newsletter offers back issues, and one of their earliest monthly newsletters dealt with your question. (May have been back a few years.) Every publisher has a slightly different way of doing it. Some, on the number line, 1 - 10, etc., put 1 if it's a first, some start with 2 if it's a first edition.
Others have the date given on the title page as well as the back of the title page, above the publishers name.
