I have a piece of glass that maybe best sold at a live auction. I have contacted an auction house that specializes in this type of glass and they have replied.
My question is this - is there anything I need to watch out for when it comes to auction houses? I have never sold at a live auction before and don't have a clue what to look out for. Has anyone done this? Any help at all is welcome.

Keep in mind that lots of people will handle your glass item and this could lead to chipping or other damage. The propective bidders, the auctioneer and the people working for him are all handling and moving the piece.
I once sold a glass dish and a lady won but after she paid she noticed a chip. I gave her, her money back. It wasn't a high end item. The auctioneer just shrugged her shoulders and would do nothing. I know it was perfect when I entered it. JMHO

The auction house in our area keeps fragile glass and pottery items in a large display case, vertical, with windows. Only if someone requests the case be opened could a prospective buyer actually handle the item.
When the item is brought out for bidding, the assistants will walk up and down the aisles if people want to see and touch it, but they're very careful with it. Probably a good idea for all auction houses.

This is very thick glass and I would think not easily damaged, but that is a very good point.
Is there a way to insure it before I send it to them? I see on their entry form that they are covered for theft and fire but nothing about damage
