I am furious! I don't use the "Click to enlarge" feature because my images are already full sized and now I find that all listings started on 11/29 and today have the "click to enlarge" activated (even though the "enlarged" image is no larger than the one appearing in the listing). My Vendio preferences show that I do not want the "click to enlarge" feature and were not changed.

If it is true that Vendio plants cookies on users who view the "Click to enlarge" feature and actually gets commissions on purchases they make in a 7 day period, then I am more than upset about this change!

Neglus: You are going to like this even less.

I went to one of your newly listed items: CHRISTMAS POSTCARD CHILD AWAKES TO STOCKING 1920

So you go there and enlarge the image. First say hello to the DEALIO logo. Bet you never opted in for that?

Then click return to the previous page. I get a pop up box that says the page is trying to close mt browser and then it does. No more ebay, no more browser.

This has been reported over on the other boards.

It is a mess. I've been revising auctions telling people to clear their cache and open the images in a new browser.

Yea, good stuff for the Holidays.

OMG - even worse if it closes the browsers! I couldn't replicate it on Firefox. What browser are you using?

I do not want DEALIO - I do not want Click to Enlarge and I do not want users browsers to close when they look at my items.

If this is intentional, this well may be the thing that makes me look elsewhere.

Fluffy - is there a way to drop our own cookies if we use self hosted images and reap our own affliate benefits?

IE 7

You can find out in the market reports how many of your users use internet explorer vs mozilla, I think.

If you are unhappy with this, oyu need to post it on the Vendio services board. They shouldn't get away with it.

Sure, if you have an external website (like Vendio) where the "click to enlarge" link takes the viewer. You'd have to be careful not to violate the nothing-for-sale rule in the Links policy, but that would be easy. Just set up a website that does nothing but displays your photos.

With a bit of programming, you drop the cookie on the "Return to auction" link. Bidder thinks (since it's an arrow graphic) it's the same as clicking the Back arrow in his browser, but it's not.

Keep in mind the stated purpose of the affiliate program is to funnel new people into eBay. Luring people off eBay, slapping a cookie on their heiny and shoving them back in is not supposed to be what the affiliate program is all about, and I don't know why eBay tolerates it.

This is not good! It does close the browser! We are paying to direct them to VD and Dealio! and away from the auction!

Checking an auction today I noticed that when I clicked on the link to enlarge it opened a blank window. It did not close my browser. I am using Safari. I assumed that the seller wanted to link to a larger image but missed posting it. I did not notice if it was a Vendio post.

This is the very reason I opted to get a domain name and opted to pay for hosting with GoDaddy in order to host my own pictures. In all the years I've been using them, I've only had a problem one time and that was my own fault. I called them up and they took are of it right away. I pay $3.99/mo. You can't beat it.

Stuck here at Supercuts waiting my turn, I read through the messages on the Services board. A few thoughts occurred.

1. There's an eerie silence on the subject of cookies.

2. The excuse offered for the "upgrade" was lame.

3. Vendio has always treated its sellers as though they don't matter. Picture outages, refusing to keep up with eBay changes, etc. Perhaps the truth is that fee-paying customers don't matter so much.

4. I'm probably going to have my access to the Community yanked. Maybe I'll go see if aftervendio.com is taken.

Selling Manager Pro? I have the Selling Manager that comes free with my eBay store and I love it! I also use an Excel spreadsheet. By the time 12/31 comes around I'm just about ready to file my taxes.

SM Pro is the downloadable desktop version of Sales Manager. It has a sync images features which didn't work when I tried it - I have too many I guess.

Fluffy - Would they really yank you just for posting your honest opinions? If so, they aren't worth the bother. I left their hosting and auction management program a long time ago. I missed it at first, but after a week or two I forgot all about it.

It's their sandbox. They can kick me out if they want.

I've been very lazy, using the EO as a sort of informal blog when I should be putting the material on a site of my own. Trouble is, I hate blogging. I am mindful of Guy Kawasaki's recent comment:

"I have a very low opinion of the blogosphere. I think it is made up of about 250,000 people who are mostly 45-year-old men who live with their mother and have dead cats in their refrigerators."

Hello,

First, there are NO cookies on the enlarged image pages. Nobody is getting any credit for going there nor is anyone being tracked or monitored by going to that page. Period.

Second, we rolled back this change for the time being. All newly listed items will appear as they always have for users that do not use the click to supersize function.

Users that do use the click to supersize will also see it revert back to how it was, and we will be posting an announcement about this new feature in greater detail, after making a few minor functionality tweaks to it.

Our apologies for some of the nasty misinformation that is being spread about regarding this new tool, and we hope to make a few minor tweaks to this so users can take advantage of it shortly if they wish to do so.

Existing auctions will not be changed, but future listing and relisting will appear as it had before (for users that do not supersize their images.)

Please let us know if you have any other questions.

Regards,
Christopher

Fluff - I am hesitant to say you can stay and play in our sandbox being that your a cat (thats not kitty litter your playing in!)

That being said, hearsay and rumors aren't really a violation of the TOS, so your of course welcome to stay.

Thanks Chris,
I really do not know what to believe anymore.

The reason I am upset is taking the "auction visitor" away from the auction page. The photos are right there.

Any diversion is hurting the seller-IMO.
This has been unsettling.

Thank

Thanks for the reprieve, Christopher.

So being the person I am, I can't resist asking:

Where are the cookies, then?

When I click on the image "click to enlarge", the photo does enlarge...BUT, when I click on "return to previous page", I get routed out of eBay and back to my home page menu. I thought Chris said this was being "fixed"...arggg...

The fix will only be with new listings. New listings will have the same settings as they had before this adventure .

Those all ready listed will still be in a buzz.

Hello blueyes29,

Note that the issue your referring to is completely different from the one users are posting about here.

We did hear from a few users about issues with the 'click to return' when going back from supersized image pages and the engineering team is still working on this particular issue.

We will post back to the thread on the Vendio services pages when we have more information available.

Christopher

Considering that I'm here in Ohio where the weather is a cloudy 38 degrees, Vendio's sandbox looks like a place I'd love to be playing in right now!

My goodness, while I've been puffing and panting in the rarefied air at 7000 feet, in Sequoia National Park; trailing behind my much, much younger wife and teenage step-son, there has been some turmoil here.

I for one, happen to like the enlarge image link for two reasons: (1) my image is actually displayed larger, and a buyer can review the item much closer; and (2) since I do have a Vendio store, items at the Vendio store are displayed, which may be of interest to my potential buyer.

As for the Dealio link, who really cares? I gave up worrying about those things some time ago. If a person finds your item interesting, they will buy it no matter what the obstacles we happen to perceive.

The key here is the utilization of your Vendio store as a gallery for your ebay items. When that happens, the store displays ebay items prominently when first viewed, with your store items listed by category in the left column.

Beth is right in that over a year ago, I posted on this board that the ebay items displayed in the Vendio store are "mined." By that I mean that Vendio receives affiliate commissions on sales of ebay items which appear in your Vendio store. Further, I emailed a few of you concerning this situation, and no one seemed concerned then. Why the concern now?

I did ask Vendio that ebay items which appeared in my Vendio store be linked so that I would receive the additional FVF credit. That request was thrown into the hopper called "product manager."

Nothing has been done with my request and I really doubt anything will be done. That is OK, as I find the Vendio system more than worth the money I am now paying.

I noticed a post regarding Vendio. I will continue there, as it is more on topic for the remainder of my post.

Just checked my images and all appears well. I rather like the new look, much cleaner and more professional looking then before.

At first I was a bit chapped about Vendio dropping cookies. Then after some more thought I decided why should it bother me. Vendio needs to make money just like everyone else. If they are so be it. It’s no worse then any of the plugs on this board for your websites! No offense intended. Your in it to make a buck too.

ChristopherCS, if you’re the same (Chris) I spoke to the other day on the phone. Thanks again for your help and professionalism.

Just a few simple thoughts from a very simple mind.
