I just noticed that a postcard I have listed is addressed to someone in "What Cheer IA". I couldn't believe that there really was such a place but sure enough, there is a town by that name in Keokuk county, population 678! I wonder if all of the citizens are cheerful?
There is an Embarrass MN (up in Iron Range area)- often the coldest spot in the continental US. I think the citizens are indeed embarrassed to be still living there after all these winters!

There are the two old favorites Intercourse and Blue Balls in Pennsylvania. I have also enjoyed Bird-In-Hand, Pennsylvania. -----o----o----o----o----o----o----o----o

Now, now... Claude.
Having grown up in Lancaster County and now living just a county or 2 away, you must get the grouping of small towns correctly named lest someone get lost.
If you are in Blue Ball (no 's'), you can certainly straighten things out if you go to Bird-in-Hand. But, the best way to get to Paradise is through Intercourse.
Yes - you are correct - there are towns all close to each other named:
Blue Ball
Bird-in-Hand
Paradise and
Intercourse
(Hey - maybe that's why all the tourists show up..? Hmmmmm)

We have Accident, Maryland. So named because some land was marked off "by accident," by two surveyors claiming the same property. -----o----o----o----o----o----o----o----o
