Complete waste of time.

What's worse, it's delusional.

OF COURSE it's DELISIONAL...

Don't ya remember when President Dewey swept the nation in 1948?

Don't ya remember when the 1980 USA Olympic Hockey Team LOST in the finals?

Don't ya remember when the 2004 RED SOX choked in the WORLD SERIES?

Don't ya remember when mighty KING GEORGE III hung SAM ADAMS & JOHN HANCOCK in Boston, and all good colonial American children sing "GOD SAVE THE QUEEN" every morning in school?

OF COURSE IT'S DELUSIONAL!

Fluff - it took longer for you to post the above post than it took to sign the petition. So BFD, maybe it won't happen, but people are upset with ebay.

edited to be a bit nicer.

I don't think it will result in Google auctions. I can see that it might be bring some visibility to what eBay is doing to its sellers and the adverse effect it will have on eBay. I almost choked on my McMuffin this A.M. when a chirpy voice on the radio announced "Good news for eBay sellers! Yesterday, eBay announced a major reduction in eBay fees which will be 50% lower than before - what a boon!" Besides sloppy reporting, this illustrates the illusion some sectors have that sellers are ready to give eBay a big hug. I like the idea of presenting the petition to an outside party- less likely to be hidden by damage control.

Thanks Tom, While others may think it delusional.. I think Google is run by a smart group of folks. They have built quite a little empire and surely are not blind to ebay having trouble. If I were a company looking to make money, get bigger... take advantage of a situation.. honey I would pounce on this opportunity. In ebay they see a company with a vast reservoir of sellers many of whom are not happy. It wouldn't take much to lure these sellers onto a new site like Google. They could grab the market and run. I for one hope they make the announcement tomorrow... hell today!.

I've signed the petition and forwarded the info to all my seller friends. I've also forwarded the info on the ebay no listing week in February. We also need to get this info to the press, so that ebay will feel the heat!

bjboswell, I'm sure Google is aware of this with and without a petition. They have so many opportunities to make money; eBay is chump change for them. I would hope that they do it, as a public service if nothing else, but I'm afraid that they're unlikely to do so.

It's too bad, because Google is probably the only company that has enough clout to conquer the chicken/egg problem. It would probably only work for Fixed Price at the outset, as who would have a "real" auction at a new site? BTW, I consider a real auction to be one that starts at a relatively low opening bid price with no reserve.

FWIW, I signed the petition, not expecting anything, but it only took 15 seconds, and I have 15 seconds.

I'll agree with fluff on this one. Your time would be better spent with a letter to the Editor of your local newspaper in answer to the news of ebay's new pricing structure and policies. Notice I said letter, not email.

Ebay is one of Google's biggest clients paying beaucoups bucks for search ads. It will take more than a petition for Google to set out to directly compete with eBay. Remember last summer when Ebay pulled ads for a week because Google Payments invited sellers to dinner during Ebay live?

Cash, You are probably right. Google has always seemed like a forward looking fair company as American companies go. Hopefully they will this of this as a public service.I took my 15 seconds and signed the petition. If it does nothing, not one thing, save create a very long list of unhappy CUSTOMERS for ebay to contemplate.. then maybe its worth our time.

Anyone in their right minds who have ever sold a thing on ebay knows that not allowing sellers to post feedback is nuts. There are so many reasons that have been pointed out in other threads these past 2 days surely they will see the light and retract this nutsie new "by-law" This combined with their incessant tweaking of the rates charged sellers is maddening and frustrating.
Again these are the reasons I keep working on stocking R.Lane.

What does Google have to gain by setting up an auction site to compete with its customers?
like Google CEO Eric Schmidt said,THERE ARE MANY MANY CONTENT SITES but not a good search engine to search these sites and we fill that need!

I just checked out the petition. Frankly it's pretty sad. Less than 6000 people have signed. Considering Ebay has over 10 million users.

I totally support any reasonable alternative to ebay's war against sellers, in particular small time sellers such as myself. feedback is one of the few tools which I feel gives me some control. Fees are out of my hands, ebay's Bog Brother attitude is making me disgusted.

Why petition Google?AMZN is doing well, you can always move to AMZN and encourage everyone else to go there!
I see,Google has deep pockets ,so you think it should spend big bucks so we can make small bucks, thats just not what the two founders learn in Stanford business school.
I forget which one goes to which school,is it Eric Schmidt who attended the Stanford business school?
